Car Chugging / Juddering.. But no loss of power

Well had the FF for 5 months and took it for a run out from Manchester to North Wales

All was going sweet until I got on the A55 and doing between 60 - 70 mls per hour..

All of a sudden the car started to rumble and chug (I can only describe it has a rumbling/juddering) with no loss of power it lasted for a couple of minutes then stopped...... Then back to running sweet again..... Then happened again and again all the way to wales and back again...

As it is intermittent, I will have trouble describing it to a garage

Anyone had this happen to them or can advise on what it might be,,

PS - It is still under Warranty

Tricky one this. Rumbling/juddering.

Does it feel engine or gearbox?

There are a few threads on here re a sensation like a cattle grid, this would point towards a failing lock up clutch in the gearbox, however the fact it went away may point to more engine related problem.

Did it feel like it had lost power at the time almost like only running on 5 cyl. In which case it could point towards injectors.

Sure someone a lot more knowledgable will show up soon though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Maybe your fuel pump(s) are nearing the end of its/their lifespan and struggling to get enough fuel in. Just enough to not lose power but cause the juddering. Although I would expect some power loss in that case.

Have you checked the brakes ?? Signs of hot discs could be the infamous caliper issue (although that is more common on SCs) starting to act up.

What is the service history of the car ?? Gearbox, filters, fluids etc. ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Update ---

Great point raised earlier by a forum member....ebajema ---- Got it spot on.....

"Have you checked the brakes ?? Signs of hot discs could be the infamous calliper issue (although that is more common on SCs) starting to act up."

Whilst in they gave it a thorough check from front to back..

The issue identified has the back right brake calliper was faulty... and was locking up.... and damaged the disk.. also the Wear Sensor was loose Evil or Very Mad !!!!........

Also identified.

NSF ball joint found to be worn
CV Boots insecure
Heater fan noisy when switched off....

Result.. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Just picked it up... with the following supplied and fitted
2 new brake disks, brake pads and wire kit
Replacement of lower ball joint
CV boots secured... (I will be keeping an eye on these)
Replacement Heater Actuator...

Cost breakdown inc Fitting - Brakes £284.83 ..... Ball Joint and Heater £256.75

Result all covered by the garage.... Big Cry Big Cry Whistle

Has negotiated 12 months warranty with them before purchase. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Ref the rear caliper - is your an '06 MY by any chance ? If so, then it'll have the TRW calipers. Both mine have had the same problem. Both cars '06MY, but neither was an SC !
The first sign on mine was the economy plummeting . . . . I don't know how you find out on an SC - it probably changes from mpg to gpm Whistle

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Sorry Trev, we get wrapped up with terminology not everybody knows the meaning of !

By SC - I mean the supercharged cars.
BY '06 MY -I mean 2006 model year. If your VIN number has a 6A in it - if it's a 55 reg it probably will - it will be 2006 model year.
There were some anomalies around that time regarding powertrain, electronics, brakes etc.
It seems all models around that time have problems with the rear calipers sticking, regardless of engine type.

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?
