Suspension again

Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that my suspension seems slow to react to different heights but still working without faults. I then got a couple of inactive errors when the car was put into a odd angle off road and it was as if the compressor couldn't keep up so raised an error. Once back on the straight and level then a restart would clear the error and no further problems until put into an odd position again.

I suspected the compressor so purchased the cheap service kit, O ring and piston ring. Fitted the kit and ran the car and everything appeared good until I lowered into access mode. It went down but will now not rise back.

The compressor isn't constantly running, it starts and stops quite quickly on restarts so it seems like the reservoir is full and not leaking after it. I pulled the air line to check the pressure output from compressor and it seems fine too, no errors are logged and the wee orange light just keeps flashing so it know it is being told to raise to the normal height but no movement.

Stan:- I have done a search for previous posts, but I haven't found anything similar. No errors and no movement but no leaks either.

I have heard of the odd problem with the height sensor "flipping the other way". Better have a look at all the sensors also also if there are no leaks, cable/connector issues. Maybe the off-road extension and then subsquent access height has done one of the sensors in ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Eugene, you beat me to it!

Given that the amber light is flashing indicating a requested/in progress height change and no dreaded bongs have sounded I would also check the height sensors on the suspension arms.

Has anyone got any diagnostic kit you could check the live values/calibrate the height?

What happens when you select the off road navigation screen, what is displayed in terms of articulation?

The reason I didn't think that a height sensor had failed was because the car stayed at the right height on all 4 corners although the compressor wasn't appearing to work correctly, I thought that if a Height sensor had gone then it would give an error? I haven't selected the off road navigation screen as I have got the DVD nav and I don't think that's available on it. 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

Do you think there may be a valve after the reservoir that has stopped working and therefore not letting any new air into the system stopping or nearly stopping any additional raises of the suspension? 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

What are you using to check for error codes?
Might be worth looking at some live data of the system if available.
Live data will tell you state of the reservoir pressure, compressor temperature, valve opening, what the height sensors are thinking etc. etc. (well it tells what the sensors see, no guarantee they are correct!).

I've had a similar issue when re-calibrating my off road height (increasing it by 1.5 inches). If the car is not level when the height change is selected then one wheel cannot get to the set height requested due to articulation. In other words the shortest height sensor cannot reach it's maximum as the others goes out of range long before it can reach it. No errors are produced it just continues to flash the height change and eventually sorts it out when level. Readjusting the max height down slightly sorted it.
As others have said it does point to a height sensor problem with yours if no other errors are present.

I haven't managed to read any fault codes yet. Strangest thing is that although there is a height change request going on (orange light flashing) the compressor doesn't keep running. It runs for a little while and then stops. I am guessing that it stops because the air reservoir is full but why doesn't the air go to the struts? 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

Yes, it's genuine. This fault has just materialised. I guessed at lack of output from the compressor so changed the piston ring and its certainly blowing now, just no actual suspension movement. 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

Get the faults read

if you do not have suspension inactive fault on on dash
it is most likely compressor goosed

(i know you have changed seal but unfortunately compressor consists of more bits)

your description of compressor kicking in for short while only
supports my theory

You could try and unplug the compressor from the system and temporary feed it 12v, see what it does, but getting the codes read is going to help most of all

I unplugged the air output from the compressor and it is blowing, not high pressure but like I could produce if I blew through a straw, which seems about right. 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

Do you get error codes if its the compressor failing? Or just ECU or height sensors 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.
