Dashcam - Parking Ticket Appeal - Dodgy Westminster Wardens

Just had to vent, and warn anyone unloading/parking in London to watch out.

A couple of days ago I stopped on a single yellow in Westminster, with the hazards and headlights on to unload a bulky item to a business premises. On returning to the car the wardens had just slapped a ticked on the screen. (Note the time and date stamp is not configured correctly but shows the time passed)

They claimed to have waited over 5 minutes, asked local shops whose car it was and said they did not know it was unloading hence I have to pay the fine. He also explained that I should not be too bothered about the fine as I can afford to drive a nice car.

They did not know that the whole incident was on my dash cam proving that they watched me leave the car and started issuing the ticket within 8 seconds closing the boot.

Just sending the appeal letter with screen shots. I have attached them below for you to see how fast and dodgy they were. £130 fine per ticket! A grand total of 2 minutes and 8 seconds from parking to ticket on screen with evidence of them watching me unload.

Fingers crossed the appeal works, otherwise I am happy to go to court. I am seriously thinking of shutting down my London based business if the parking issues get any worse. Where is the logic?

Just goes to show the dash cam can benefit drivers in other ways too.

Feel better I got that off my chest.....

Fingers crossed, but residents and businesses should not have to go through appeal in the first place, I had already paid the congestion charge and sat in 1 hour of traffic to drop off one item.

It all takes time and effort and most people just give up and pay even if they are innocent. But barefaced cheek of these wardens is nuts. And without the dash cam evidence who are the appeal court going to believe? Tom

I really think more people should exit the capital. I did it 22 years ago and I've never looked back. Leave the place to the moneybags and let it fizzle out in terms of everyday stuff. There's a lot more business to be had in the Midlands and north of England without the overhead of London related crap. High prices, stupid parking restrictions, mad commutes, etc.

It is a Blackvue DR380G-HD I think it is 720p which seems good enough. The video was in compression mode when recording. I have fixed it above the rear view mirror on the passanger side with the cables hidden in the screen surround trim. You can hardly see it from outside (as it is the all black model with only a small silver bezel).

I used to work 100% of the time in Westminster but now I work mainly from home in Essex and venture into the smoke as few times as possible. I do love London but it is getting ridiculous. I use my car for work but they have now removed lots of pay by phone bays, and converted single yellows into double to limit parking even if you are happy to pay. Spending 30 minutes to find a space is a joke, and NCP charge minimum fees of £25 in some multistories.

Such penalties and strict control only penalise business and residents. Try getting an appliance delivered or a tradesman to fix a plumbing issue without having to pay for their high parking fees and inconvenience premium. Tom

Its as you say Flashman, a lot of people don't have the time to appeal etc, so end up paying fines they should not be getting.

Best of luck with your appeal which I am sure you will win with the evidence you have showing just under 2mins between wardens approaching your car and ticket being placed.

You got them bang to rights and technically they are the ones committing an offence if they stated they waited 5mins and asked in the shops for the driver. Surely if the video evidence shows they did neither is it not a form of purgery?

It is just the barefaced lying the really gets to me as well as the lack of any logic.

I'll never forget a traffic warden giving a bus that had broken down in a bus stop on the High Street in Brentwood a ticket. The engine cover was up and the hazards on. Yet happily the warden slapped a ticket on the screen. It is not as if the driver was going shopping and told his passengers to get off so he could jaunt around town.

These prats need to be fired if they have no common sense at all. Tom

I guess the real point here is why are they giving Flashman a ticket in the 1st place?

Why should the innocent be hounded by lying deceitful individuals that seem to have the right to hand out very expensive fines with what seems total disregard for honesty or integrity, and they seem to have total impunity.

Surely if its proved they are deliberately giving out tickets by fabricating facts and deliberatley lying then they should be hit with the full weight of the law.

Examples need to be made of traffic enforcement people that go round causing a misery to folk who are clearly acting within the parking conditions, and if the wardens are found to be acting dishonestly then hand out prison terms, its the only way to stop this underhand business.

It always strikes me as odd that when parking your car the onus is on the driver to prove he or she is innocent, yet the technology already exists to give the wardens video cameras that they can not manipulate so there would be no possibility of what happened to Flashman taking place. But it seems the motorist is seen as an easy target to get money out of under false pretences. And the parking enforcement companies would only loose a great deal of money if the traffic wardens were forced to maintain video evidence of the wardens actions.

Good idea on the cameras, much like the police will be wearing soon. It will protect both sides from lying and violence etc. Tom

So assuming this gets withdrawn is it reasonable to assume the council are liable for your time? I'd bung an invoice across to cover it and then issue proceedings if they failed to pay. After all, it is malicious and wanton fraud which has caused a waste of your time in having to defend a false allegation.

Can u not claim damages for fraud?

Ps there are a couple of apps which show where free parking spaces are in your location, can't remember the names but the Sunday times featured them recently.

I'd send the footage into Watchdog. They love this kind of thing.
