Haven't fitted a camera to mine, had them before and don't really think they are much good unless you use it to hitch up a trailer.

Reversing light wire is White with a yellow tracer

Rear light on the passenger side is Slate (grey) with a purple tracer

You should find these in a loom going towards the light. Pete

United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Santorini Black

Hi Folks
First post here and stumbling around the interweb researching replacing the head unit in my newly purchased 2004 vogue found this forum and the only 'live' thread on the subject with some fantastic info from Pete so just had to register

I'm looking at an android based system using the unit referred to here but in a slightly different way...i.e by removing cd changer, putting existing head unit in its place in the glovebox and connecting the new unit in serial then running the 5 metre 40 pin lead to the back.I found a 4 year old thread on another forum where someone had done it and to me it seems within my capabilities to do it this way basically using the old unit to trick the dsp into behaving itself.

I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread about keeping the old unit but has anyone here done that with this type of new unit yet ?
regards all
magu

I've read that post and AFAIK you don't have to leave the old one in to get the amp to work, I hard wired mine but it should be plug and play with the radio plug which sends it all through the amp, the only additional wiring is for the lights and aerial... Pete

Just a little update on mine....ordered it on a Monday and arrived on the Friday...from China!

Customer service from Erisin (Crystal) was absolutely amazing and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to anyone.

Started installing mine at 10 and finished around 5pm , this involved removing all the units in the boot and as I had DSP, having to chop in to the speaker wiring and get it all working with the HU.

I bought the optional DTV box and the TV reception was perfect and I even managed to get it working with my Alpine head rest screens.

I still have to connect up the reversing camera and a bit of tidying up to do but overall I am very impressed at what this head unit can do.

Great bit of kit and this is definately the future of ICE !

I found this thread (and this excellent forum) when I was doing a Google search for a after market audio/nav head unit for my 2002 vogue.
What a super, helpful and informative thread it is, and many thanks to Haylands for 'breaking ground' and passing on his knowledge.
I have read and re-read, and just about all my questions are covered, but there is one thing I'm unsure about and hope someone can clear up for me.
It is to do with the head unit fulfilling the role of DVR system. It seems that when fitted with a camera records are saved in the GPS card.
I presently have a stand alone DVR camera fitted to the windscreen which has a micro card to store the records. The camera 'recycles' the card, overwriting previously recorded stuff. I think they all more or less do that, with a button provided to protect any high priority recordings.
My question is, will these head units do the same? Or will they simply continue saving to the GPS card until it is full, and then stop recording. Another thought is that if the latter is the case, when the card is full how can the GPS continue to function. Because the GPS needs to write to the card, if only with saved addresses.
Ideally I'd like to use the new head unit for DVR recording and do away with the existing camera, so if any one is able to explain that bit in more detail it would help a great deal!
Dave.

Dave,

The DVR setup is a USB output and you plug in a camera, I got one from Erisin. The software they use does not bring on recording automatically, even if it was on the last time you had the head unit on, so every time you start the car you have to tell it to record... This for me is fine as I only use it for recording Off Roading, but would be a PITA if you wanted it all the time, I use a 32GB card and it takes days of recording to get half full so I don't know what it does if it fills up... It also records each record as two files, one with the picture and one with the data... speed, location etc...

There maybe another Android App that lets you do what a "normal" DVR does if you do a search...

This is the quality of the one they sell, well the first bit anyway.... it was very cheap...

Worth having a look at Torque Pro (android app). Does recording with data overlay, but last time I looked it was a bit of a pfaff getting it off the device. (You still have to turn it on to record though, IIRC) .
