Fitting wheels

Hello gents, just looking for advice regarding a tool on my wish list...I'll start with a description of the problem as I don't know what the tool I want is called Or if it exists for a FF.

When fitting a wheel onto my FF, the weight and size of the wheel makes it difficult to get It on to the hub centre and align the studs as a one man job. I do however remember having a device for a another car ( that had bolt holes in the hub rather than nuts that go on to threaded studs as per the FF) that looked like a 5" long round rod with a threaded end that you would screw in to one of the wheel nut holes on the hub, then allowed you to slide the wheel on using this protruding rod as a guide in one of the holes on the wheel ( thus supporting the wheel weight and providing alignment)

Hopefully the description is clear enough?...Is there a tool that works in a similar way ?( that would screw over the protruding threaded studs on the hub rather than screwing into the holes as per my other car) and if so, what's it called and where can I get one ( I suppose there are different diameter ones to suit the hole dia on the wheel).

TIA

I know what you are thinking of, but not sure if anything is out there, especially for the FF.
A local engineering company might be able to make something for you, if you explained it to them.

Check Machine Mart site for Dolly Trolleys.

There is one that has two rollers which can be pumped closer together each side of a wheel to raise it, called the "Clarke VPJ300 Vehicle Positioning Jack"

Rather expensive at £107.98 for one but cheaper than suffering a strained back.

I'm thinking of buying one myself as I have the same problems you mention, and saves having to ask someone for help when removing or fitting a heavy wheel.

The Porsche Cayenne has those threaded holes in the hub and comes with a guide rod to screw in

A couple of quick tips if working off the floor... A, don't worry about getting DIRTY! Very important fact... Most injuries occur when you try to hold a wheel away from you to keep clean! & B, roll the wheel onto your foot and use your heal as a pivot point to lift the wheel up & down an inch or two. Thumbs Up

I do the same but use my knee to nudge it up in to place, that way I'm nearer the studs and stand a chance of seeing them Cool

Just wait till your old and full of aches and pains, then you will appreciate any mechanical aid that helps with the simplest tasks.

Use a shovel. A childs one from a bucket and spade for sand is is my limit. Very Happy

Use your foot to raise the wheel. Try that with arthritic joints in your feet. Very Happy

Apart from that some good suggestions for the fit and able posted. Thumbs Up

I think PSA had this with some of their vehicles. I'll have a dig around and see if I can find one.

Pro tip is when jacking up get the wheel just a mm off the ground. Worst case scenario is you have to jack it up a bit more Smile

ShadowBG Thumbs Up Thank you. That's the exact thing...and you even found an example on a FF...Full marks that man Bow down

Now I just need to find a uk distributor or just import a set or ask a local engineering Co to knock some up.. Just see how much easier it looked...If i cant get any, the shovel idea appeals too.

@craig...don't mind getting dirty, its just the shear weight I struggled with to get them aligned.

Might be worth considering a Group Buy and importing a quantity, I would certainly buy a set.
