New profile tyres V's suspension fault

Hey guys
I recently changed my standard 255/50/20's for some nice 275/55/20's.

A few days later the car doesn't only go into limp home mode but it drops itself right down onto the tyres. I then have to park up for 30 mins. Let's the compressor cool down. Then I get another 20 minutes down the road and have to complete the sitting in a lay by pretending I'm doing something very important in my low rider routine.

So my first thought was Censored my compressor is gone I need to replace it. But after leaving it parked up at home for more than 24 hours with raised suspension it hasn't lost any height.

So my question is this. Could this issue be anything to do with my new profile tyres? I.e do I need to get my suspension re-calibrated?

Thanks in advance you lovely, lovely people

"I then have to park up for 30 mins. Let's the compressor cool down. "

I would suspect a hole in an airbag. The fact that it stays up when not in use doesn't obviate that. The hole can be "plugged" by a fold in the bag which, when on the road is exposed.

If your compressor is working overtime to keep the bag inflated, which is what your post is suggesting , then the quicker you sort it the better. Otherwise you're going to need a new compressor soon. John

to fit the new tyres , the FF would have had to be jacked up possibly revealing a hole in the bag as John has suggested..

it could be a damaged height sensor ...i would circle through the height modes to see if that sorts it or do a battery reset..

it wouldnt be the type of tyre/wheel causing this btw.. ... - .- -.

So the side walls will be about 151mm instead of about 127mm so the car should be about an inch higher from the floor as it sits normally. I can't see how that would change things compressor wise as the height is taken in relation from the body to the wheel, not the ground...... Unless someone tells me otherwise....

Put it in off road height and put some washing up liquid with some water around the air bags, should help you see any leaks... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Cheers guys. Useful info as always. Right then. Where do I find these airbags?

Rolling with laughter did you suspect they were leaking ?

The air bags are in place of a spring, front ones around the shocker, rear ones not around the shockers, you'll see them.... No need to climb underneath...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Agreed - the last thing you want is frozen airbags.

When one of mine got a hole in, you could hear air coming out and you could feel it blowing on your hand. Wasn't long before the car dropped to its bump stops. Best swapped in pairs to maintain consistent handling...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Ok great. I'll check the airbags. Could the larger tyres have caused a puncture in the bags?

Also if I got a hole in 1 bag. Would it drop all four corners?

You'll have to see if the bigger tyres rubbed on the bags, though a few on here have put oversize tyres on without issue. Not done it myself so not an expert.

When one of my front air bags leaked, the whole front end dropped down. The back stayed at normal height. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Hi Mike, what is the age of your car ?? The bags do fail at some point, on my SC in Nigeria (US model imported) the fronts failed after 6 years. The cracks in both bags were completely covered in the fold and only when the suspension bushings were replaced and I asked them to check, the cracks became visible. The front struts were removed and the bags were blown up a lot. Lots of longitudinal cracks in both, no small little pinhole for sure !!!! We could hear the leaks (the car was having issues before so I knew there was some leak.

Island 4x4 was the cheapest at the time and shipped them both to Lagos for me and they arrived pretty damn quick Smile. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

My tyres are taller than yours and are nowhere near the airbags, they would hit and rub in lots of other places first before they got to the bags... Thumbs Up Pete
