-08 TDV8 gearbox occasionally hard gearshift.

Every now and then the gearshift is far from as smooth as it is supposed to be. From standstill, the shift from second to third gear is the one shift that most frequently fails. It may be wrong to say "fail" but the shift is far more abrupt than expected. When manually downshifting on enginebrake it also sometimes seems to overcompensate rpm so that when engaging a lower gear, the rpm is slightly too high so that you get a slight acceleration before continuing engine brake. It's not much, only a quarter of a second or so but the gearshift is far from smooth. Any good ideas on what may be the cause of this behaviour?

I bought the car only a few weeks ago and the dealer is aware of the problem. They changed gearoil and filter and claimed the problem repaired but this is not the case. The car have 180.000 km on the counter. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. "Plentraktoren/Garden tractor": 2008 L322 TDV8

Faulty solenoids are a very common issue on the 6HP26 transmission.

Makes sense. I would assume they are fairly easy to change with the gearbox in the car? "Plentraktoren/Garden tractor": 2008 L322 TDV8

Yes, just drop the Mechatronic unit out of the sump.

As phil says the sole kids do fail, there is also a gearbox software update which with the oil change can improve the situation. NOT a software/adaptation reset, as this can make things worse. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

My 6hp26 failed last year as the output spline had no anti corrosion/lubrication, which also affected the TC input gear. I was lucky to pick up a good used box. I'm currently reusing the original mechatronic. There was no sign it was failing.

Battery voltage seems to affect a lot of things on these cars. I just installed another battery. The tranny seems to run smother now. My cranking battery is probably on its was out. Maybe check your battery voltage. ______________________________

Visited my local RR dealer to troubleshoot the gearbox. They told me the box had to be rebuilt or replaced due to mechanical problems.

They struggeled to connect their diagnostics system to the gearbox and showed me a technical bulletin which should explain that when the diagnostics failed to connect, the gearbox had a mechanical failure. I was unable to read the bulletin but their explanation sounds like bullshit to me. I will get a written feedback with a price estimate within a couple of days.

The car is still under "3 months used car warranty" so the company I bought it from should pay the bill, they are located a 6 hour drive away so I have already made a deal that warranty work should be done locally (which is only a 2 hour drive including a 25 minute ferry ride). I still wonder if they really are serious or if they just are "making work" for someone to pay for... "Plentraktoren/Garden tractor": 2008 L322 TDV8
