Lost all keys

A friend of mine has lost all his keys to his 2006 TD6 Fatty, don't ask....
He has paid £200 for somebody to come out and make a spare key but all they did was make a non alarm fob key with no transponder looking at it so it unlocks the door and the alarm goes off. The guy that made the key claims it's not working because a fuse has blown in the vehicle which sounds like tripe to me.
Has anyone had a full key made other than at a dealer as the dealer said to bring the vehicle in but he can't move it without disconnecting the gear selector and putting it in neutral I guess and having it recovered or lifting it?
Thanks

Or disconnect the props at the UJ's as they enter the diffs and let the handbrake off and it will roll, put it on a flat bed then take it to the dealers. 2004 4.4V8 Vogue

Cheers, that's another option.
i have found a site that claims to come out and make a complete key, just wondered if anyone has any experience.

I've just ordered a new key from Land Rover. It came ready cut and programmed to my car. Just had to add it to the memory with the coding process as in my other post in here. Don't think he would need an original key to follow this process. RR History

He did try the dealer and they said they wanted the vehicle taken to them.
My mate doesn't have a clue about cars so he doesn't question anything, I may have to take over for him, you need a certain sort of reasoning when it comes to Landrovers ..
Thanks all, I'll keep you posted

See here. http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic42668.html

That was my starting point. All done over the phone. Key arrived in under a week. RR History

If he needs to move the car in the meantime just lift the leather gaiter for the gear lever off and there is a mechanical override for the park brake under there but I can't see why it has to go to the stealers in the first place. 2008 MY Supercharged

Thanks , I'm learning a lot with this thread, I'll call round his house later and get the vin and email it over to Dan at Duckworths asking what the procedure is.
There is no way a key without the alarm buttons could work is there so I will also try and get my mates money back from the key guy.

Ok, bit of an update- got a quote from Dan at £148 but key will still need to be programmed by a specialist or car taken to dealer.
I have spoken to the guy that did the original key and also the company that programmed it by having the EWS ECU sent to them and they are positive the key should work even when the alarm is going off which does work on mine if I just open the door with the key and not the fob.
I have given my mate the price of the key with alarm buttons and the original key guy says he can programme the new key and will try and work out why the key that has been made is not working.
Anyway... that's all I have for now

And another update..

The original key made was a transponder key and also had a spare transponder but this doesn't work as we know.

i kept chasing my mate and he has now ordered a key from landrover which arrived and does unlock the doors manually but nothing else as in wont turn off the alarm, operate central locking or turn in the ignition which is what i expected but the guy who organised the first key told me today it should work straight away as it came from landrover but as already said i don't think that is the case.

i have put it back in his hands to come out and have another look.

I have also removed the battery to recharge it.

Something i did notice today was the steering lock wasn't on but i didnt try turning the wheel too far....
That is all !

As far as I know, the key needs to be paired to the car.

Clearly the mechanical side will work as it was cut to fit, but the car needs to know to accept the new fob - they don't come pre-programmed as such. The fob has a unique ID and the car maintains a list of which fobs it will accept.

good to know that his pain will benefit us all in the long run , I always thought a dealer sourced key would work form the get go but clearly not Confused
