Hi Guys

Had to use the drivers side wing indicator to send 12volts down to open the doors after the battery completely died. Now this side indicator does not work. Ive checked the bulb and bulb holder by swapping it to the other side and both work ok. Ive tested the connections on the bulb connector (which is attached to the wiring) and i get a reading of 12volts. Im assuming the wiring is ok as im getting current to the bulb connector.

So where is the fault likely to lie? What else can i check/test.

You could try disconnecting the -ve terminal on the battery and leaving it disconnected for five minutes and then reconnect it. You might be lucky ( or not ).
I presume manual unlocking on the drivers door didn't work.

Disconnected both terminal leads on the battery in order to recharge on a CTEK charger - still no joy with the side indicator.

And definitely no luck with trying to open the drivers side door lock with the key (when the battery was flat). Does the door lock require battery power to operate manually with the key or is this another fault ive got to look into?

UPDATE 1

Querying through the search facility (and looking through RAVE) ive read up on the LCM.

I took the LCM out and discovered green corrosion on pin 14 (RH side repeater) of the LCM and on the connector hole on the wiring harness. Both have cleaned up nicely with electrical contact cleaner. However, the fault still persists.

So far ive:
1) cleaned all corrosion on LCM pin (+ harness connector) as per above
2) tested for voltage at the bulb connector and am getting 12v
3) tested for continuity of wiring on both the earth and live wires (from bulb connector to connector holes on the wiring harness)....both ok.
4) checked bulb(s)

I dont know for definite if the LCM is faulty so what else can i test before i pay for a new LCM ?

(Any tests for earthing faults other than no.2 above)

You could try taking the side repeater off the car and connecting it directly to the battery and see if it does in fact light up.

I swapped the drivers side repeater (bulb connector+bulb) over to the passengers side and it works.

(I've also swapped the passengers side repeater over to the drivers side and it didn't work. So definitely a problem on the drivers side repeater wiring and/or LCM).

If you have 12V and earth at the repeater you would expect the repeater bulb to be lit up all the time, something I don't understand.

Not sure i understand 100% too but i faintly remember (from somewhere) that voltage can exist without current flow (but not the other way around). I have a very very basic school boy understanding of electronics so may be some one with more authority on the subject matter can comment.

If you have 12V and earth the bulb should be alight.
You don't happen to have led bulbs in the side repeater by any chance?

Nope....a standard filament bulb is fitted (which definitely works as tested on the passenger side indicator)

Have you checked the earth at the repeater connector to an earth point on the car? If not I would.

No, didnt even occur for me to do so. The LCM is sitting on the table so once ive connected it back up i'll give it a go.

Can i use the body chasis as my other earth point or do i need a proper earth termination point inside the car. I assume i need to turn the indicator stalk on once connected up with my probes to check for a leak to earth?

You need to connect a multimeter to the repeater connector earth terminal to and earth point. The easiest earth point to find is probably in the engine compartment. Any of the bolts/ nuts on the top of the air suspension struts will be ok.

MOT is due soon so ive decided to send the LCM off for repair to an auto electrician who offers LCM/BCM repairs on ebay.

Will next update when i get it back.

FIXED!

Sending 12 volts down the indicator wire had blown one of the 'drivers' on the LCM pcb.....but now all fixed and working. A fantastic service offered by an auto electrician on ebay which i would whole heartedly recommend. (Sent the unit off on wednesday and received it back on friday).

Moral of story: dont use the side wing indicator to shove 12 volts down to open your doors....unless your prepared to blow your LCM in the process. Costwise, its £60 + postage.
