how to convert 2002 to 2006+ front (facelift)

ok i said id do a write up on how to facelift so here goes im sorry if its not that easy to follow but ill try my best

so to start you need to remove your front lights grille and bumper
so unscrew the 3 screws that hold the grille on and get that out the way
the lights have 4 screws 2 at the top and 2 tucked out the way underneath
the bottom ones are a git to get to but it can be done
im sorry theres no pics at this stage
once the lights are out the way you can start on the bumper there are bolts along the top and bottom plus 1 screw in each wheelarch
once the bumper is off you need to unbolt the headlight wiper housing and wipers
your car should look a little like this

the only differance is ive allready installed the new bumper and headlight mounting plastic you can see that just above the bumper bar
now as per the next pic you need to remove the bar that sits under the bumper bar and the bits of plastic ive highlighted
now cut the tabs off at the front of the wings so the new headlights can mount up ok
and the uprights at the bottom that ive highlighted
the bumper bar needs the holes for the fog light made wider unless you want to use a new bar from a 2006 +

you should be left with this

and this

now back to the headlight area the old brakets in the wing need cutting about a bit so that the headlight fits in you can partly make out where in the next pic

some of the old bumper mounts that attach to the wing will need to be cut off you will see the bit i mean very easily when fitting the lights but just to help they are highlighted in the next pic

right you should be pretty much ready to bolt it all back together its just a case of cutting the old plugs for the fogs and fitting the later plugs to the wires and then rewire the headlights..
if you buy these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Late-Range-Rover...224wt_1199
it saves a lot of grief i had of re wiring the lights ...i brought just the plugs and used the diagram below to work out what goes where but id say the above ones are better and they come with the diagram

now its just a case of bolting it all back together and you have a facelift you will be left with a few bolts as the new lights only have 2 bolts holding them in.....
and you should end up with this

instead of this

i really hope this helps and i will try to edit anything i think dont make much sense "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

Coulda had some extra beer if you'd have looked at the wiki:

Headlight plugs do not fit - you'll need new plugs. They are avail for GBP60 on ebay or GBP15 from http://www.simtekuk.co.uk/

Although it seems that powerfulUK gave you the wiring diagrams to go with the plugs? If that bi saved you the time it would have taken to look up the diagrams in RAVE and work through this it was worth it. How bout posting the wiring to the wiki...

Looks very nice!

Hi Pret,

It looks very nice at the end of the job. Well done!

I do wonder about the whole face-lifting thing though - mine is about 3 months pre-face-lift model - it looks like to do the whole external job is a lot of work and a lot of expense - wouldn't it be better to put that money towards a newer one? I can see you've tried to hide it's real age with a different number plate. At the end of the day it's still a 2002 or whatever car - with the same mileage etc.

Don't get me wrong - I do think it makes the car look newer - but why not just buy a newer one? Prices (certainly for Petrol models) seem to be dropping quite nicely now...

I can understand ur comments but I to am planning to do a facelift on my RR

I spent a long time looking for the right car it's got full service history RR 2 owners and was a xdemo car

I've paid out on a lpg convo and plan on keeping it some time for me it's more about freshening up my motor I like the new look but I'm happy with the overall car just like the new look hence the new lights

Hi Cliffy,

Well - I'm sort of the same I guess - looking long and hard at the moment whether to spend a mere couple of hundred on walnut console and door cappings etc...

I sort of want to do it to make the inside look nicer (in my opinion of course), but part of me is saying actually the foundry finish is more modern than wood and at the end of the day am I merely trying to polish a t Censored Censored d?

You've done a great job and made it look easy. Thumbs Up

Looks like you did a heck of a deal on the prices of new parts and shifting your old ones, too.

All you've got to do now is source loads more of these facelift kits and do the rest of ours. Twisted Evil Si. <This is my name.

@steve I never brought them plugs as I got mine thrown in with the buy and the diagram I posted is the one I used not powerfuluk one although there pretty much the same apart from the asf wire's that don't work anyway

@smiles I didn't put the plate on to make it look newer I've had that on all my cars and own that for the same reason someone with a 2012 plate motor would have one Thumbs Up
Like cliffs said I searched long and hard for a well looked after range rover with good mileage and service history so for me spending a few quid on it to make it more to my taste is no big deal for what I spent on the facelift you couldnt even get a service for the same price .....oh and it's a 2003 Thumbs Up with 80,000 flrsh
For me to get very simuler spec on a facelift I'm looking at at least £18.000 so that's a lot more money to me maybe not to you but I believe in living within my means and will not do finance so only buy what I have the cash to buy Thumbs Up "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

I think it looks super. Would be also good to have a similar thread for doing a 2010 conversion at some point when those parts become more affordable. Thumbs Up Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Good deal! I'll be over for beer next time I'm in the UK then. Just have to make sure I get in the right car when I leave. Very close looks wise. Seems you have good taste. Cool

2005 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Java Black

Hi, I've got all the parts for a 06-09 conversion on my 2005.
Where is the headlight mounting bracket fitted? Is it needed?

Do I really need new splash guards?

Thanks everyone for your help
