Low Oil Pressure

Hi Guys,

Newbie here, sorry my first post is a question.

I've got an 02 TD6 Vogue with STOP! LOW OIL PRESSURE warning coming up on the dash a few seconds after starting the engine.

So far I've checked the oil level which is fine, changed the oil pressure switch and checked to make sure the new one works (which it does).

I've just put an oil pressure gauge on the engine and tested at tick over and 2000rpm and that seems fine. Pressure at tickover was approx. 30psi and 60psi at 2000rpm.

Does anyone know the exact spec for oil pressure/rpm? I've downloaded a workshop manual but that doesn't have it.

That's brilliant thanks Simes.

The 'Low oil pressure switch opening pressure 0.2 to 0.6 bar' is interesting as that's about 9psi and the oil pressure gets nowhere as low as that!

So I can't understand why the switch opens Confused

Ok - if the switch is ok / new and the pressure is OK ( measured independently ) then maybe worth looking at whether the switches signal is reaching where its meant to go?

Or... it it the only pressure switch on the engine? could there be a second one which the ECU is also reading? V8 or else ...

A friend put his Snap-on computer on and looked at the pressure switch and you see it change on/off.

I spoke to the LR parts department when I ordered a new switch and only one came up on their system.

What I can't get my head around is why the switch changes state when the pressure doesn't drop.

Even though it was only serviced less than a 1000 miles ok, do you think it's worth doing an oil and filter change?

Just to rule out the garage using the wrong spec oil?

just wonder if the garage did fit the correct filter and like you say, the correct oil....the oil specs for the range are on the wiki and with that info in hand , talk to the garage.. ... - .- -.

Have you considered the low oil pressure may be connected to the themostatic valve serving the oil cooler?
