solar power charger

Hi all, going on a cruise in august for 2 weeks and will be leaving rr parked at docks.
Can anyone recommend a solar charger that i can buy to save the poss of a flat
battery on return. Also can this be plugged into rear power socket with panel on
rear parcel shelf.

Cheers for reply, have been through search but not much about the watts. i.e is it worth
getting 1.5 watt/4/5/10 watt etc. would rather buy once properly than come off the boat in my
sailor outfit and find what i've bought does not do the job.

Cheers Stan, seen that one but there must be a differance in capability does the 1.5 watt do the job
always like to buy once which is why i asked for recommendations. most reviews i have read are so
differing they dont help. Seaman Stains aka the wife will not be happy if we have to wait for a jump start.

I have the maplin one and leave it perminately plugged in the rear boot on the inside rear window. (Windows are tinted so you can't really see it outside).

It won't charge a flat battery but if your battery is in good condition my experience is that it works and keeps the battery topped up. Since buying it last year I have never had the brief HDC inactive error flash on start up after I haven't used it for a few days. Reformed

I have a Ring 12v 2.4w solar maintainer. It works very well indeed.
Plugs into socket in the boot. For some reason i do not leave it plugged in - probably not to sure if it will cause any damage.

I have just ordered one as my FF often stands for a week without moving, is there a problem with them if they stand for a while ? Current Stable:

Just picked up a 2.4 watt one and have popped it in the rear side tinted window. Hopefully it will help keep the engine topped up as don't always do a long run to get the battery charged up. Tom

These solar chargers are all very well but if the diode in them fails, as they can, and they are still plugged into the car they effectively act as a resistive load on the battery and as a result slowly discharge it.
Starting the car with the solar charger plugged in can have a detrimental effect on the diode.
You pays your money.....

nicedayforit - that will be the reason that i don't leave mine connected and I cannot remember who suggested that I didn't. I only connect it when i'm away for more than 3 days.

I have been running a Sunsei 4 watt one in another vehicle which gets infrequent use for the last 5 years - this is a good quality make. These type of solar chargers / the Maplin type etc will not recharge a flatt battery, they will maintain a battery and overcome natural discharge / battery discharge wastage, but thats it.
