Ipod install.... Easy?

Hi Chaps and Chapettes,

Has anyone installed a LR ipod kit to a 2008 model ff.

Dan has given me a good quote and was wondering how hard it is for some one who probably has more confidence tham talent with the spanners. I have seen the instructions and it looks like a dash apart job. How hard is it?

Any advice will help.

Cheers There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Take a look at these vids:

and
&list=PL063C3AB14BE6984C&index=55&feature=plpp_video

The most difficult bit of the whole job is removing the vents in the dash end caps (around 1:30 in the first vid). He makes it look easy because - I suspect - he's bent the locking tabs inward to where they don't spring into place anymore on their own. If you do this, your vents won't sit tightly anymore (the 'art' in a job like this is not actually getting it done but getting it done in an OEM fashion so that you don't have squeaks or rattles afterwards). So to remove the vents, you have to find appropriately sized screwdrivers and try to work the 4 clips while simultaneously pulling the vent = fiddly.

Everything else should be easy. That said, there was a post recently where a dash pad had been reinstalled w/o being hooked into place and the hooks were resting on their slits causing the pad to bulge (you'll see).

Just pay attention to what you are doing and how each piece fits. You'll get through it.

NMJones,
2008 yours will be like mine (2007) so if you do it, write it up or better get the camera out and share. I need to get the screen out for a bit of Carbon wrapping so a heads up on any pitfalls would be welcome. Thumbs Up

Obviously if I get stuck in first I'll do the same. Very Happy Geoff

Saw MJDronfields post about his dash, all back together i think now. Might have a go.

Though I have been quoted £60 to install the kit if i supply (seems too cheap) by mobile solutions in derby. Doubt they can do it for that though. Probably at least 2hrs in it i should think if all tools present and correct. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I've done mine and also did it on the RR Sport ..... fiddly but if you take your time and are methodical it is perfectly feasible.

Took me about 1 hour 1/2 from memory

As stated above .... biggest challenge is getting the vents out without breaking .... Stephen Gazard

With the genuine ipod kit, does it retain Changer function or do you have to lose that? Does anyone know?

Cheers. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

You keep them both but with a switch in the glovebox to change between the iPod and changer...
