As above really, im off to see (for the first time) the company that rebuilds our customers gearboxes for them to update the software and give the SC a once yearly look over (gearbox wise)

Can anyone think of any questions they would like asked?

Please don't inundate me with 10,000 questions but if its reasonable i'll ask...

Going to basics, how often do they recommend the gearbox oil be replaced? Mileage-wise and time-wise.

And do they have any particular oil type / make recommendations for the various models? Si. <This is my name.

Have they come across a situation where the transfer box motor works OK (even tried this with a brand new motor), and will put the box into low range, but refuses to put the box back into high range, causing TRANS FAILSAFE error messages. Only way to get back into high range is to manually wind it back with an old motor. All wiring checks out (have tested). This on TD6 '02 with GM box.

Complicated I know, but they may know something? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Ask them what size of oil cooler would be needed if the heat exchanger was removed and a cooler used instead. V8 or else ...

i've tried the process of ignition on ,foot on accelerator etc but that didn't work for me so i was wondering if there's another user method.. ... - .- -.

Ignition not on - Switch off - then back onto just the auxiliary position... Not ignition on.

Are they going to flush the gearbox ?

Well, been today and they have checked mine over and have flushed the hole gearbox system, on a machine that gets all the oil out and flushes through some form of cleaning agent. It also flushes the cooler as it acts like a second larger filter and gradually clogs with crap leading too all sorts of issues... They updated the software and checked all the ECU's for fault codes...

I asked about oil changes and they said the five speed is a crap gearbox and short of servicing it every time the engine oil is changed! There is a modification they do when rebuilding them that helps but in their opinion its crap!!!

One tip they did say was to check the condition of your oil, if it looks and smells burnt then the damage has already been caused... If it seems quits clean then change it often...

Stan, they looked at me odd when i asked about resetting your own adaptions yourself so i didn't ask twice!

My oil was clean and smelt right, my car is now 7 years old so i hope it will prolong its life...
