Hi, Don't suppose any harm could have come to the wiring harness between the back of the glove box and the centre console?

I've seen cases where someone removed the glovebox and 'shoved' it back in pinching a wire which killed the power to the coil around the ignition which is used for the near field chip in the key.

I called the AA in the end, and the battery only showed 4 volts on the tester. he put the jump leads on and all came to life again, so I was very lucky.

It took some time for the alarm to settle down as it kept going off about 30 seconds after setting it. it finally stopped this afternoon. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice, I shall have another look around. No-ones been messing with the glovebox, and I can hear some clicks from the steering column when I drop the key in, so think there is power to the coil thingy! The key is still only turning about 10degrees.
Wouldn't you know, just got in to try again and after a couple of goes it turned. This is the third or forth time its happened since Saturday though - can't trust it out without figuring out why it was doing it. Shall have a look at the diagram Martin pointed to, but it does seem to be more an electrical thing rather than mechanical Sad Had hoped new battery would sort out (along with some other issues).

Have the iidtool, so may switch off the steering column retraction (when I have time to download v2.17)....

Thanks for the help and advice!

Perhaps the gearbox interlock is causing an issue? Land Rover Addict

Do you feel the cable lock the key in the ignition when you turn it 10 degrees, or can you still remove it? Are you in accessory mode when turned to 10 degrees or no power?

Suggest you remove the cover around the gearstick so that you can watch what is happening with the key locking cable. (That's the green one in the picture Martin pointed to) .

You couldn't remove it, but it wasn't getting as far as accessory mode.

Having said that, it seems to have cured itself! Haven't had any problems since Friday after a lot of wiggling let it turn. I'm now thinking that it is to do with the cable, and that repeated use freed it off?!? It had been sitting for a week when it started.

Hate these random issues! Would rather get to the bottom of it, so will be looking to check out the cable ASAP!

Thanks for the help! l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Any chance it could be a build up of crap in the barrel not allowing the key to enter fully?

I don't think so - a sticky cable feels more likely....

Will strip down the plastics around the igniotion when I get a chance - unfortunately I did not have a chance to do this over the long weekend, as as I mentioned, it seems to have freed itself off - only had one instance where it felt like it wasn't going to turn, and a bit of jiggling sorted it...
