Coolant flush

Cant really find much on the search so I thought I would just quickly ask. I recently swapped my rad and used some coolant a mate got me from work, the rad turned out to be like a sieve so im picking up my new one today and the correct coolant, all I want to know is whats the best way to flush out all the orange stuff I put in to my 4.4 v8\2002?

Just use a hose pipe to flush it all around Smile and back flush though you may need to pour some boiling water in to open up the stat and let that out.

also i think there is a drain plug on the block somewhere to help get the water out of it.

There is around 20litres or so in the system i think so a fair amount of water for a cooling system Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

Would getting the car up to temp with the heaters on, then opening the drain get rid of all the coolant? Or will some be left in there?
Would it be sufficient enough to open the tap intermittently whilst topping up the expansion tank with water to flush out the orange stuff I have in there?

Last time I changed the rad I only got out about 5L so I need some other way of completely draining it, wheres this drain on the block?

You'd need to check RAVE to see where it is on the 4.4 but the idea of getting it up to temp is a good one.

Top tip, before you do and while the engine is stone cold, loosen all of the plugs just enough to make getting them off easier when its hot as when its hot they are a Censored as you cant touch anything else around the engine bay with bare hands or even gloved hands without the heat proof type gloves.

Just break the thread lock and then nip them up a little again and jobs a good en Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

4.4L V8 Cooling system capacity:
Refill: 13 L
Fill from dry: 17.3 L

IF only 5L came out, that seems like a serious problem.
Not a whole lot will come out of the block; it's just a bunch of tiny little passages, so not much volume. Even the 4.3L difference between "refill" and "fill from dry" seems a lot.
Maybe the coolant manifold on the back of the block doesn't drain unless you drain the block; then that 4.3L makes sense.

Recalling doing this to my P38, the block drain hole is not at the bottom of the engine, although it MAY be at the bottom of the coolant in the engine.

I realize using distilled water to flush the bad coolant will cost quite a bit more than tap water, but your vehicle will appreciate you making the extra effort on her behalf. Jim
