Engine Code on Nav screen

Hello

i am a new member here.

i have a 2004 Range Rover HSE.

On the main screen of the nav system there are several functions or options among them "CODE"

It’s an option helps you to protect your engine from being started without entering the 4 digits code.

Before I had 1998 740IL and the same option was there and I was able to use the buttons to activate it and choose a 4 digits code, and also I was able to disable it anytime I want.

The problem I am facing now with my Range rover is:

The code word is there available on the main screen but its inactive (Gray color while other functions in white color) so when i am trying to move the courser to it its moves to the next option.

So, Can anyone tell why its inactive/disabled, and how can I reactive it again.

Thank you so much

I think if you put the key in the ignition and turn to the first stop the CODE will be highlighted in white.
It goes to grey when the key is moved to the next position.

Yes, that's what happens on mine. When the engine is running its greyed out. As the ignition key is turned to position 1, it lights up, and I can enter a code, it then says something like "remove key to activate"

Stan

if you have seen the video clip or the picture you will notice on the screen that even when the engine is running the system still requiring the 4 digits code to get the main menu.

also on the instrumentation display panel you will see the word "CODE" while the engine is running.

what i have done to activate the code was:

i have turned the ignition key to position 1, and then I entered a new code, then system asked me to turn the key to position 0 to activate the code.

am i wrong?

i'm not familiar with that setup as i have a touch screen on mine, but you could try a battery dis-connection..this 'might' reboot the ecu's and set them to default....if you do remember to turn the steering wheel fully let then fully right after you have re-connected the battery [with engine running] ...procedure is on the wiki.. ... - .- -.

Thank you Stan

i will try that later and see the result.

By the way, the only thing i have changed in my car or replacing MKIII navigation CD drive with MK4 DVD Drive , so do you think the problem i am facing is related to the replacement i have done? or the Navigation drive has nothing to do with it.

cant see that affecting the firmware as normally a newer sat nav disc just updates the nav firmware.. ... - .- -.

Where is the firmware for the computer screen actually stored ?

I've a feeling its the nav unit, as I too changed from a Mk3 to Mk4 nav and the system is slightly different. No off road navigation option anymore and the sat nav voice has changed. Along with colours and all sorts of other stuff.

The code option however, seems to not have changed. I tried it the other day, entered code whilst key in position 1, and had to put key to position 0 to activate.

A few days later, when I turned the key, I needed to enter the code to start.

I take it you locked the car up etc between setting it and attempting to start ?

Long shot I know.

Doesn't look right in your video. Not much of a deterrent is it ?

I'll check mine again............

In my M5's they just turned over without firing when you had the code set....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
