46" TV advice

Looking to purchase a tv in the near future . Anyone bought a 46" recently that they can recommend?

Doesn't have to be 3D or Smart.

Thanks

The last time we bought a tv, I trawled through the reviews and forums here http://www.avforums.com/ and found the advice very useful.

I got a Samsung UE46D7000 last year, the one with hardly any frame, and can't recommend it enough.

Got many awards.

Think its been replaced with the UE46E something or other now.

Richer Sounds havea UE46E6900 or similar for £1099, with Freeview HD and Freesat HD built in.

Mine was wireless as well.

Not the cheapest, but can't fault it.

Get one thats LED backlit.

I'm normally a Panasonic man, but they were pushing plasma at the time I bought.

Go and stand in Currys, find one you like, and then go and get it cheaper off the net.... Whistle 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

+1 for the Samsung above.
Buy it on line at John Lewis and get a 5 years warranty included.

I bought a 51" Samsung plasma and it was terrible. The buzzing from the tv was louder than the tv volume.
I then bought a 46" technica LCD 1080p For £380 (roughly) and its really good quality and what a picture

We have done away with the TV and installed an Epson Hi-Def projector. Directly on the wall (our walls are white obviously) and it is brilliant.

We don't have a TV antenna/dish/subscription/cable so we only watch DVD or via the media server (downloaded movies and TV). Mainly because quality of TV programs on our DSTV top subscription was too crappy to be worth the money. Now we only watch the stuff we like and no BS around it (commercials/intros etc.).

We can do a full disc (8 Episodes) of Big Bang Theory in an evening because of the elimination of the chaff Smile Tonight is the last one of season 5 !!!

So in short, consider a projector. Epson 8700 UB was one of the best when I bought mine (intermediate range) and it has done very well sofar. Hooked up to the PS 3 (HDMI) so we can play games on the big screen as well, sound goes through a Samsung home entertainment system. The Media Server (TVersity) runs on a laptop with big hard drives hooked up for the downloaded stuff. Also great to watch family pics Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I have three 46inch Samsung's and a 55inch Samsung (all the SmartTV one's as previously mentioned by other posters) and they have all been extremely good. Shape, size, weight, picture/sound quality, plug and play ability are all I need.

And there's some great deals on them online at the moment. Mine came with 5 year warranties too.

I switched all the TV's in the house from LG equivalents about a year ago thanks to an insurance pay out after some flood damage. - Ad augusta per angusta -

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Orkney Grey

We've got a Sony KDL-46HX853 - excellent picture on HD, visually stunning at times, first time we had F1 on, my jaw dropped!!

Sound quality despite the built in 'sound bar' was below par to our taste so we've got a simple BOSE twin spkr + sub set up which produces superb sound and together with the TV makes a brilliant combo.

My only 'gripe' is that each time you power the TV on it won't respond to controller commands whilst it checks for and then updates itself (EPG, content etc) over the internet and despite having it connected by ethernet to a 75Mb line, this can still take a couple of minutes.

Also, it can reflect light on the screen if you're unlucky.

But, we're very happy with it - no regrets at all and happy to recommend it.

An observation though - beware the bright and shiny in-store showroom display setups - they can be very misleading. 2012 FFRR Westminster Orkney / Ivory and absolutely no pimp-glass!
