Fast idle after split expansion tank

Firstly, hello all.

Secondly, having just bought 2003 4.4 vogue and splashing out £2000+ on an lpg conversion, you can imagine my delight when the expansion tank split after less than 300 miles, securing me a ride home in a recovery truck.

So, I replaced the tank and cap today and since then, it idles at around 900 rpm and seems to run less smoothly in general.

This happens on both LPG and petrol and I have driven 50 miles to make sure it's not the low battery voltage thing. There Is no water in the oil or vice versa

Can anyone help me out with this one?

Hi Terry,

Welcome to the forum.

High idle could be that the throttle position is not learnt by the ecu.
Try turning the ignition on to position 2 and leaving it there for 35 seconds. Turn it off then start the car normally. Might work and it won't cost you a penny.

I wouldn't worry about it for the time being. Run the car and see if the ECU's adjust. You might need to take you car back to the LPG installer after 1000miles for a tune. I know my system was in a learning mode for 1000miles. After that the LPG map was adjusted and set to normal running. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Engine should idle at 700rpm with air con on and drop down to 600rpm if the aircon is switched off.

With the engine idling - does the engine speed change with the aircon switched on and off?

Also, the engine will do a warm up mode from a cold start by keeping the idle higher than normal and gradually dropping it down to normal as the engine warms up. If its still doing it when its warm, then it could be the engine thinking its running cold???

Are all the sensor connections correctly plugged in and what does the engine temp on the dash show? V8 or else ...

I would suggest you change the engine temp sensor, it may well be faulty after you lost the coolant when the expasion tank burst.

How bizar.........afte faffing around wih various codes yesterday (don't ask), Today my 4.4 decided to tick over at about 900rpm on both lpg and petrol so after 40 miles of trying to sort it out I reset all the defect codes by following this link

http://www.roverupgrades.com/Range_Rover_Hidden_menus.html

and hey presto....... back to normal tickover.
