Had this for a few weeks now. Happens at very low speed going over uneven bumps in the road, but also at other speeds. The front wheels or the rear wheels can set it off.

Had a cursory look underneath and in the boot spaces, but can't find anything loose. The wobbly knocking doesn't appear to be related to suspension travel but is caused by it, if that makes sense, as the wobbly knocking continues after the bump has passed.

Noise if definitely coming from the rear of the car - somewhere. Might stick son 1 in the boot to listen out !

What's loose that might cause this? .

just wondering if it could be the air suspension struts moving laterally..i've had this a few times but not really taken any notice of it.. ... - .- -.

Time to get it up on some axle stands and have a good wiggle about  .

If it is the wheel bearing it will be easily noticeable when you have the car lifted

I have had this on both sides at the rear - it is the large bolt that goes through the suspension under the lower outer bush (if that makes sense). I think one side is 22 or 24 mm nut and the bolt is a 23mm - definately not the same. There was no movement visible but putting a socket and spanner on it I could retighten it and that was the end of the knocking !

Im at work at the mo but seem to recal the bolt is roughly 10 inches long

Just looked at rave, seems the only one that fits the description is the damper mounting bolt, this being below the shorter hub bushes? .

I haven't a picture but yes that sounds like the one.
It looked absolutely fine but I managed to get 1/2 turn + and that sorted the knocking noise. The drivers side started last year and i tried looking everywhere etc and in the end it was the garage that did the MOT that found it and retightened it - thats how I know what it was on the near side
I also changed all the bushes whilst looking for the noise - including the anti-roll bar linkage. Ahh well its another job done for the winter

Checked the rear over the weekend. It is not the wheel bearings, nor the damper mounting (although I did get half a turn on it!) For reference the nut and bolt took a 13/16 or 21mm socket, same as a normal spark plug socket. Had a good wiggly and bash with leather mallet but nothing appears loose. MOT guy did indicate bottom hub bush had some slight movement 6 months ago (have all the new bushes to fit - just can't find the time to do it).

I think it may be inside somewhere, so going to strip back the innards a bit see if that fixes it. .

I don't suppose it could be anything to do with your exhaust moving around on its mountings could it? No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

i have the same fault as you , it doesnt allways happen but when it does you would expect to find something hanging , i will be putting mine on the ramp this weekend to change the handbrake shoes so i will be having a close look at everything that could give rise to this fault and will post my findings  1990 3.5 v8 defender

another major is the rear subframe/body mount bushes, they are whoppers and do go over time. ]

not sure how you would test them, but you can visually see the inner section of the rubber for cracks. They were called out on my last MOT as an advisory.

( They are the large vertical round bushes on the subframe. )

I made the basics of a puller to get them out ... never got round to using it to change the bushes tho. V8 or else ...

Hard to believe this one, but fixed my wobbly knocking at the rear.

Last night I replaced my FRONT ARB droplinks

Today all wobbly knocking from rear has gone. Driving experience transformed.

When the knocking was there I had at least five different people in the car at different times, they all confirmed that the noise was from the rear.
