General question about repairs and parts

So u may have seen my other threads about my car problems. But I have the worry of paying for all the parts that don't fix the problem.

So in general, with regards to mechanics telling me i need this and need that to fix a certain problem, Am I required to pay for parts that do not fix the problem after they have been fitted etc ?

if I apparently need new keys, and he gets them from landrover, and I go collect the car and try re program the old keys and they work, can I tell him to take his new keys and shove them where the sun don't shine and be legally allowed to do so..? Thumbs Up

I'm sure a lot of you have similar experiences with garages.!!

I wonder if you pay by credit card if you can claim the money back from them because the service you paid for was not carried out correctly? Probably best to ask if they are confident they can fix it first, and if they say yes, then ask them to do a no fix no fee deal?? Just a thought.. Previously..

I would remove the vehicle from there and have someone else sort out the mess, then send the first garage the bill

I think you can expect that type of service from a main dealer. Not sure with the independents thou. I had a anti freeze leak once with my Disco TD5, took it to Taunton LR and they diagnosed a radiator leak, ordered a new rad and removed the old one. they then told me it wasn't the rad but a water pipe. When it came to paying the bill there was no charge for the removal and refit of the rad and the anti freeze.
Also, my son is a BMW tech with Sytner and he told me that Sytner do not charge for misdiagnosing parts and labour. However main dealers do have the resources to get it right. '88 RR Classic, '90 Classic, '93 Classic, '02 Discovery TD5, '55 Discovery 3, '01 P38 4.6, '06 L322 Vogue TD6, 2012 L322 Vogue TDV8

Have a look at the Consumer Protection laws in Ireland, they may cover something like this. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
