Hi Tony, even if you go to someone with a diagnostic tool that doesn't mean they can tell you what is wrong. The codes are limited and you still need a smart and/or experienced mechanic to use the fault code info and usually other information to find out what is wrong.

On this forum it is clear to me at least that IID is the preferred one, it seems to work very well and the manufacturer and his team are doing a lot to support their product (just trawl around here and you will see what I mean).

I use the Faultmate, which is by no means faultless !!, a very elaborate tool similar to the functionality of the T4 testbook of Landrover. It has more functionality than the IID but that doesn't mean it can help you in this situation. I would probably have chosen the IID as well, if I had known about its existence at the time as I believe it is substantially cheaper. Plus I believe Steve and his team are developing it further, hopefully for IID users to the same level as the Faultmate with less "issues".

If you want to tinker with all the car settings (and there are a LOT of them) and re-flash ECUs, then you are limited to the Faultmate (ECU reflashing is not an "easy" thing by the way and not without risk). If you want to do diagnostics and (limited ??) setting changes then IID will work.

My suggestion is, have a good look at the specs of each of them with your preferences/requirements in the back of your mind. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

the IIDTool is distributed by britparts to dealers across the country.....there is no set price as the dealers sell at different prices ...its best to google and compare prices or read the IIDTool threads here on the forum as members post how much they paid and where they got it from... ... - .- -.
