Fueling up

Just noticed whilst filling up at Morrisons that the fuel pump nozzle doesnt go all the way in!! Rolling Eyes the result being that the fuel pump auto cut off activates frequently as it must think theres an overfill of fuel in the neck and it literally takes ages to fill her up, unless you fill it up at a trickle.

Is this common or is there a knack or special angle to hold the nozzle at? there was a big queue at the pumps so not wanting to look a right charlie Embarassed I gave up with only half a tank!!

This could be the same issue I have. I've not found a diesel nozzle yet that goes all the way in, I think it's due to the anti-petrol nozzle guard in the diesel models.

The fuel filling issue is a know land rover TB - i.e. if your car is under warranty the dealer can fix it, it's a replacement fuel filler neck. Mine is being done in 2 weeks.

Mention this LTB to the dealer and get it swapped - what year is your car?

PS; in the meanwhile try holding the pump completely upside down, seems to work for me.

car is MY08 I'll mention this to them thanks - but I'll give it a while so I can enjoy the car a bit before she has to go in.

I've never had any problems filling mine up, (2003 petrol)

My Vivaro on the other hand, I'd love to meet the bastard that designed the fuel filler neck on that, the pump clicks every 2.5l of fuel unless you go stupidly slow, and with a 90 liter tank, I'm usually there a looooong time! 2006 Mercedes CLS

I've only had this a couple of times. I found rotating the pump nozzle 10 to 15 degrees cured it.

It's what I like about defenders... you can fill them from a quick truck pump in less than half the time. RR hole is too small like all other cars.

One of the down side of living in the Booniesis that we pay about £37.50 for a liter of fuel , one of the good sides is that most of the independent garages still use the trigger locks so you can lean on the pump and smoke a tab . Thumbs Up 2008 MY Supercharged

Shocked Shocked Shocked

That's only £3000 for a FFRR tank-full. Perhaps I was missing the irony...... Embarassed

The TDV8 anti-misfuel device prevents the diesel nozzle from going all the way in. As for 'clicking-off' all the time, turn the nozzle though 180deg and you'll find it fills perfectly. Often works best if you are on the wrong side of the pump (quiet lane) and the fuel hoses are connected high. Saves waiting for a vacant pump and it looks more like a F1 pit-stop. I used to always get my fuel from the big brands like Esso or Shell, but now use tesco and have no problem with their pumps. They're also usually cheaper and I feel better getting clubcard points! (only 10s of pounds but better than nothing!). Steve

On 2010 diesel models there is an anti petrol filling neck and flappy device inside the throat of the filler. Pain in the a**e as it slows the filling process (with diesel hopefully Thumbs Up ). And it your not careful, it also seriously delays the action of the forecourt pump cut off and pours diesel down your paintwork Crying or Very sad

You need to listen carefully for the whooshing sound as the neck starts to fill up. Just needs a light touch towards the top of the fill Thumbs Up Currently running FFRR MY10 TDV8 3.6L and a Disco 3 XS Commercial (tank like but very effective as a Company van). Plus one mint condition Track Day Car in the form of an E36 M3 3.2L Evolution circa June 1996 with lots of go faster bits and only 52k miles on the clock! Oh, plus a few bits to make it slow down really quickly as well! Luvverly.
