Things To Do Near St. Austell

Going to St Austell in August, mainly to visit 'The Eden Project' and 'The Lost Gardens Of Heligan' - Staying 2 nights at the local Premier Inn, can anyone recommend places to visit or any good restaurants in the area.

If you want a high end meal then I can thoroughly recommend Driftwood

Seal sanctuary at Qweek, about half an hour away,
Boscastle ,
Fowey nice little fishing village and if your trip is when the regatta is on the red arrows do a display.
If your into go karting the largest outdoor track is near there, great fun when its raining, but take a change of clothes.

At Porthleven the RNLI have an day in August with the helicopter, off shore and inshore life boats.

Enjoyed it so much we are off back again this year, in two weeks time. Three things in a blokes life his dog,his car and a Cornish pasty, nothing else matters.

Try The Polgooth Inn (Website at www.polgoothinn.co.uk). It's only about 3 miles out of St Austell. Gets very busy in the summer though, so it's worth booking.

Alternatively, if you want a nice restaurant, rather than a pub, then another really nice place I found was the Trewithen Restaurant, in Lostwithiel ( www.trewithenrestaurant.com ). We were there only a month or so ago and it was brilliant. Really friendly service and great food.

Although not particulalry 'touristy' we also found the Britannia Inn ( www.britanniainn.net ) pretty good for evenings when we hadn't booked anywhere and were coming back from a day out. We ate in the lounge bar on two nights and the food was good. They also do a very nice pint of Doombar!
