Recently had a set of deployable side steps installed by the dealer, but of late I've been noticing what seems to be odd intermittent behaviour from them, examples of which I've listed below:

Unlock RR, steps deploy as normal and retract if door is not opened after a minute. Opened boot to get something out, closed it and both steps deployed Similarly, opened drivers door to release bonnet latch, steps deployed as normal upon opening door, closed door and steps retract as normal. Finished under the bonnet and closed same (with a slight slam, as you do!) and both steps decide to deploy...! 

Yet another example... Leave steps to retract without activity, lock RR and steps suddenly deploy briefly and then retract, almost as though they are confused, its quite bugging!... I assume this isn't normal?

Called the dealer, to report same and they didn't seem to have any ideas/answers and won't do anything unless they witness the odd behaviour for themselves, sods law though it won't occur when at the dealer.

So anyone with experience of this kind of thing happening, so I can arm myself before frequenting the dealer...?

Let them first check all the connections, wires and switches. Then make sure the latest software is installed and then use it again for a while.

It sounds like a loose connector or a small wiring problem or a connection issue. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Can you change a wheel when you have these deployable steps on ....

Got to unscrew 4 allen screws to remove a step to provide access to the jacking point. A faff but no big deal. Current: Volvo XC40 T4 R-Design. Loitering with intent to possibly buy back in.

The book says for the step to be removed before jacking...

Mine do the same thing & have done for years so I just ignore them & let them get on with it.

MD said not covered under warranty as dealer fit accessory & only cure would be replacement of complete system with no guarantee of better behaviour.

Mick you can change wheels with the steps on if you use a trolley jack - I would never use the jack supplied with or without steps

I've jacked mine up with sidesteps using a bottle jack. I locked the steps in the deployed position (or just leave the door on the latch). The jack fits in the point fine. The only slight problem is you don't get a lot of space to pump the jack handle up and down. It does work however.  2012 5.0L S/C

Spoke with dealer today and suggested it may be a loose connection/wiring issue... Response was "it's a new one on them, never heard of this happening before" booked in tomorrow to take a closer look so fingers crossed.

It's by no means a major issue, I accept that, just somewhat irritating! Besides I paid enough for them, the least I could expect is for them, to work 100% as intended!

Will keep you posted on their findings... Better to be irresponsible and right, than to be responsible and wrong.
