That equates to 43 mph in a 37 mph zone ridiculous have to pay 80 euro and get my first ever penalty points  Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

if any of us naughty british drivers get flashed, we often get the chance to do the speed awareness course, but only if you are a few miles over. I was 37 in a 30, but I thought is was 40! should have noticed the lampposts! the course is quite interesting, and dispels a lot of myths, -like the 10% calibration one! the guy next to me was flashed at 32! yes 32. it costs a little more than the normal fine, but your points are 'suspended' till 3yrs, but are included the next time you get flashed in that three years. -and 'drop off' if not naughty again. you think you are being lectured at first, but it turns into a fun exercise.
apparently, there are over 100 cameras in surrey, and only 6 are ever in use.
in London its many more -about 700 but only about a third in use. I pass 9 everday to work and a few on way home. its like a minefield. and now lots of London is 20mph. ie walking speed......

we had an interesting afternoon not long ago, when we got 'sweeney'ed by the cops, and car was taken from us coz it wasn't insured. I had told everyone about the new personal plate, except the insurance company -after I had actually changed it. -I rang them telling them I was going to change it. d'oh! and the missus was driving, and we are arguing over whether it was really insured, (it was on the old plate) the cost this time is 6 points and £200 on her licence! ohh-err!

I think you are a victim of highway robbery.... I am totally against speeding in areas where there is the possibility of a pedestrian collision, but 6mph over the limit should only get you a talking to and a reminder to watch your speed. Previously..

I certainly agree in built up areas, and actually mostly within reason elsewhere. What I don't agree with is the points. Pay the fine, learn your lesson but not the points that you easily accumulate.

In Switzerland you just get a fine but unless you're going very fast or doing it continually that's the end of the matter.

By the way, if you go much higher than the speed limit your fine will be linked both to your speed and your income. I think one rich guy was fined over one million francs - which is nearly £700k! He was going 186 mph though and if he'd done that in the UK he'd have gone to jail.

I got zapped in Cambridge last month doing 34mph in a 30mph zone.

makes me think I was lucky when one night finishing a late shift coming home I over took this slow car in my new ish landrover Tdi 90 county in a 50 mph area, but went through 2 villages at 30, ish, this car turned out to be an unmarked cop car, 2 bobbies in it too......they did pull me over and had a word with me but kindly said 'just watch your speed' and let me go......I was only 22 at the time ! If it dont work.......burn it!
