Rear Heating

I have the rear heating (vents in rear of centre console) and have noted that air seems to flow through these vents at all time. I can turn the airflow up and down but don't seem to be able to shut off totally. Also it seems that whatever the temperature dial on the right is set to warm air comes out unless the blower left dial is turned right up when cool air does come out.

The front heaters are both set to around 21C and fan, distribution and recycling all on auto and AC showing as on.

Front seems to work as it should with warm or cool air from centre vents as set on little dial with cold to hot air from everywhere else depending on the temperature set and the ambient temp.

One is this normal and two is there a way to turn off the rear air when not being used (which is most of the time) There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Are they like the early ones where you rotate the dial until it clicks?

As far as I can tell they don't click, unless it is very subtle. If the forum/my laptop/iPhone or iPad would let me up load a photo I would add a picture. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

This is a better shot of the rear controls I have. The left side dial has a very slight click just over 3/4 of the way to the lowest setting (dot).

I found that the rear vents were very very slow to respond to temp settings made on the dials, and pretty poor at heating up in general. I think the long run of ducting from the heater matrix in the front dash means that as the air flows along it, the air cools or heats up to the ambient temp of the centre console by the time it goes out the vents. I.e. you need to heat or cool the ducting before you get hot or cold from the vent.

On my blower control dial, it did turn down to zero and would seat with a click as described above. V8 or else ...

Still getting hot air only from the rear vents even when turned off and set to cold. I have tried with the front controls set to cold with AC on and in auto. The rear vents only blow cold if turned up to the max fan.

Getting to be a bit more of a problem now the weather has warned uo as also makes the front feel warm as the air circulates.

Any ideas/suggestions appreciated There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

You need to plug your car into a diagnostic unit which would help you find all the logged faults and allow you to clear them.
If you did this you will probably find most of the faults don't re-occur.

I have cleared all the faults using my IID, only ones that came back were communication errors which I was told can be mostly ignored. Any ideas what I should be looking for fault wise for the rear heating? There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Your rear fan doesn't appear to respond to all the settings on the speed controller.
This is how it is supposed to work.

As first guess I would suspect the output stage (Voltage amplifier) may be faulty.
This performs a similar function to the FSR on the front fan blower but is far smaller.
This is the unit.

The cooling/heating I would have to think about.

The blower unit seems to work, i.e. if I turn it up the blower gets faster and when I turn it down it reduces although it does not totally turn off and a small amount of warm airs flows out. The air gets cool if I turn the blower right up.

I will recheck for codes. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t
