^^ Jay got one on order...but in 2 minds whether to go for it, been running around in an old Jeep which has done me fine and I have actually had a demo of a new Jeep GC which I really liked. Was thinking if I went for the Jeep what I saved on a Range Rover I could put towards another XKR which is a car I would like to get again just for the burble of that 5 litre V8 Thumbs Up The forums premier drug dealer and human trafficking consultant

Your maybe right about the Jeep...had an XKR before and still have an XKR reg number on retention would be a shame not to use it!! Laughing The forums premier drug dealer and human trafficking consultant

its possible to temporary fix the stuck/non working starter fault, without any real tools. you will need to raise car if poss. and crawl a little under to the bellhousing, (ie your arm and head behind front wheel etc.) find the starter motor main unit. the solenoid will be bolted above to it. with a brick (or a hammer if poss,) even the wheelbrace, give it a sharp tap or two. then try it. then try again a few times. it may free the stuck solenoid slider, or clean up the electrical 'spark' carbon on the contact plate- to energise it. the motor is about 4 inches across and about 8 inches long. it might get you going instead of waiting for a recovery. -for him to do similar! don't ignore it after though. it will return!
the solenoid is a high power relay and actuater. it slides the pinion cog towards the engine starter ring, and when engaged it then transfers high power through a thick copper contact. thus allowing full battery power, via battery red lead, to run the motor direct.. this contact plate can become dirty etc. or the motor brushes can also become dirty, or the sliding actuator is not fully engaging, leaving the switch not closed.
here ends boring starter motor lesson.

Reminiscing again, in the old days, you just undid two bolts removed starter sprayed the bendix with WD40, got it moving nice an freely (having cleared out the crud), pop it back in and away you go Wink .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

Well almost a year after the starter motor was replaced at 4500 miles, it's started to do it's clicking and not starting again at 9000 miles.

Only seems to do it first thing when cold and has got worse over the week we've just been away in the car. It was doing it occasionally before we went, now it seems to be every morning and it's taking 3 or 4 presses of the button to get it to start.

Back to the dealer we go. Annoyingly this is the only problem we've had with the car, otherwise it's perfect Sad
