What is going on?

How old is the alternator ?

Did you fit it ? If not then take it back to whoever did

Loose belt or dodgy connection ?

What's the battery voltage with everything off ?

I might be wrong, but if your battery has a good charge then 13.8 should be what the alternator/charging system deems as sufficient, it maybe that the alternator will output more when the battery is not as well charged.

When I have measured mine it very often goes to over 14.5 volts for a few minutes but then drops down to 13.8v.

^+1 The output voltage of the alternator varies depending on electrical load and state of battery charge level.
I'd be inclined not to worry too much for a few days and see how it goes.
Mine frequently drops below 14V but the battery is still fully charged.

Hi Ian and when did you actually measure the voltage.

If you have been driving for a while, as others have mentioned above, 13.8v is fine.

But even if your battery is fully charged, you should get a short period of 14+v shortly ( about 30 seconds ) after you start your motor. 2007 TDV8 Lux

Fixed

Seems to be regulating itself properly, had a check of the voltage today and peaked at 14.9v before settling down Thumbs Up Ian
