How long to get your private plate assigned?

Does anyone know how long it's currently taking for the DVLA to let one display a private plate (assuming you have the log book and retention certificate)?

Thanks

Or if you have a local office you can go in with both and the current tax and they will swap it all over there and then Thumbs Up unlikely though as they are slowly shutting them Sad There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

All of the DVLA offices are now shut. Evil or Very Mad

But as DVLA are looking to avoid even more bad PR I think you will find that the post service is quite swift. The key is to read and reread the forms to make sure everything is in order, if it's not the whole process really slows down. I think you will be surprised how quickly it all happens.

Remember the rights to the plate belong to the vehicle keeper defined on the V5 (i.e. do not sell before the paperwork is completed). I'm sure you know all that though...... 2006 4.2 SC

I read recently that new cars are selling by the bucket load due to the availability of cheap finance.

I was being tongue in cheek. Cash is King? They don't want real cash... Finance is King! Thumbs Up

Indeed Sad

Problem is everyone will be in the same mess they were in before everything went Pete Tong.

When we were buying our FF the dealer was trying to talk us into financing it so he could get his commission. He really didn't want it paying off and was offering an extra £500 off the car if we took the finance. By the time you'd paid the setting up fee, and settlement fee even if we'd settled it straight away we'd of been no better off so we told him do do one.

According to the salesmen the number of FF's sold that aren't on finance could be counted on two hands for his dealership a year.

Spot on David. Obviously they are in the business of making as much money as possible but it's frustrating when you can afford to buy a product but appear to get penalised for not resorting to borrowing money to 'buy it'. For example, your 'discount' example and/ or some dealers currently offering more than one free service to those taking out their finance packages on cars.

Not just talking about Range Rovers here.

I'm a firm believer that finance can be a good thing in some circumstances...

1. If you can afford it in the first place
2. If it's interest free

If you're paying more interest on a finance package then you're savings are earning in a bank then what's the point... If it's interest free and you're getting something back on money that's in the bank then you might as well. However if there's fees for settling early then it starts to become a waste of time.

I also appreciate that not everybody is in a position where they can afford not to have finance on things. However, if you're savvy enough about it then you can work it in your favour but too many people see it as a way of getting what they want there and then without thinking of the repercussions.

A friend of mine bought a higher then average mileage Ford Mondeo on finance. He didn't negotiate on the price, only the monthly payment. This soon bit him in the backside as when he wanted rid of it he realised that as he'd put a higher then average annual mileage on it the car was worth less then what he owed on the finance.
