Would you not consider the Parrot MKi9000?

Just a bump to see what the price might be - one on ebay is asking £487.50 ('special offer'!) |

I go through this dilema about twice a month. I have looked at the Parrot and Alpine options a lot. My issue is that I am not a fan of extra brackets and gadget on display and so the parrot/alpine idea isn't one for me.

The whole reason for going the Parrot MKi9000 route is there are no brackets, no screens, it's totally covert. Just this which can be hidden or put somewhere very discrete:-

Not sure the integration is an issue, assume you can choose the device to connect too...so use the existing system for phone and the ipod on the parrot - also my ipod is a classic, non-bluetooth?

Yes, you can just choose not to Bluetooth your mobile phone to your Parrot and continue to use the LR system. Although as said before, the Parrot is actually the superior system from a voice quality perspective you just lose the screen functionality. But yes - You have the choice which to use.
