You should have the bonnet up whilst waiting for the car to go to sleep... Not after it has gone to sleep (otherwise the opening bonnet may wake the systems up again!

Simply remove the earth lead off the battery... Its just a 10mm spanner...

I get the feeling as my suspension fault message is not a real problem. As whenever I get the message all I have to do is switch off the engine. re-start and all is fine again.

So if I open the bonnet, take off the earth lead, re-connect, turn my steering wheel left then right and after this I still get the error message - what are my next steps?

It's just more irritating than anything else

If the message keeps coming up after disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery, then turning the steering wheel full lock from left to right then it looks like maybe the battery is on its way out. It does not take much of a drop in voltage performance for it to affect the basic diagnostic messages from the ECU.

If the car suspension works fine but the message comes up, then it is more than likely time to plan for a new battery. Most on here go for the Bosch (or Varta) S5 110a which is a tight fit but gives you the most powerful battery possible and a long warranty.

Obviously there may be another issue hidden away, but I have had the same message as have many on here and it disappeared when a new battery was fitted. Tom

AFAIK the 2006 MY SCs don't need the steering wheel trick anymore, anyway I never used it and my battery has been disconnected many times.

So suggest to remove the negative lead and leave it of for some time, i.e. an hour or so. Then each ECU will power down completely and the transient faults should be gone.

Also, have you tried just lower the car all the way, raise it to max and see if it sees the error of its ways ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

still didn't do it. So neg off for an hour if not I suppose it's a new battery

Have you had the fault codes read? Sounds like either a battery issue or a faulty height sensor... Fault codes will rule out the latter

I don't know your situation (dealer locations, garages or your own level of expertise) but i can fully recommend the iid tool for fault finding these types of issues... A couple of hundred quid = a more stress free owner

Plus I live in Russia so getting anything done is always difficult. Think I'll leave the neg connector on my battery off for an hour and try that. If no success then I will go and get my fault codes read and see what that shows

If it is a height sensor issue approximately how much should cost inc fitting? ( I understand moscow prices will vary)

I've got the extra dongle thingy that allows me to start the engine remotely.

When I bought the car the battery in the fob was dead. I've just replaced the batteries but it still doesn't work - does the unit need pairing with something again since having flat batteries?

If you mean the remote for the fuel burning heater, yes it does need pairing - see this thread

And just to clarify the fob will not start the engine for you but will start the fuel burning heater, this will preheat the cabin, but be careful as if your battery is not in tip top condition it will flatten your battery and you will not be able to start your engine. You only really need this function in cold weather.

Ahh thanks for that, I would have been expecting the engine to start. Moscow gets down to about -30 degrees in the winter so I guess this should qualify as cold weather
