S/C Gearbox slipping

I have an occaisional gearbox slip that seems to happen when either pulling away from rest or low speed. It always corrects itself once moving and does not seem to happen in Sports mode.

From a few searches on here, I have had the gearbox flushed and fluid changed last week and it has sadly not made a difference.

The odd thing is that I have noticed that the "D" on the dashboard disappears every time it happens, but the gearbox selector seems to be moving freely.

Any thoughts?? 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

Have you had it plugged in and the fault codes read at all? Might be worth a shot to see if there's an electrical fault or something easily traced.

I would have done the same as you I reckon. Changing the fluid can't hurt in any case. Discovery 4 HSE

I had what's sounds a very similar problem, was convinced it must be serious but found this and completely sorted;

Put suspension up to highest setting, good spray of wd40 sorted it out!

Be interested to know how it goes - good luck!

Thanks guys, there were no gearbox fault codes found last week so sadly not easily traced, although I am liking the suggestion that some WD40 may solve it.

Assuming my serious lack of mechanical ability allows me to locate said linkage, then I will clearly be trying this tomorrow - keeping everything crossed Thumbs Up 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

With suspension up to highest you can get underneath quite easily. I think it's on the drivers side but if you can get someone to move the gear changer whole you are underneath you can't miss it. Give it a good few squirts and go up and down the gears.

My symptoms were slipping out if gear when pulling away any at low speed. Was convinced it was going to be serious and was happily surprised in the end.

Hope it's same for you!

+1, usually does the trick.

while under there its worth greasing it up too, saves it happening again.. '08 Audi S6 Avant 5.2 V10 with Milltek non-resonated. Vrrrrrrmmmmmph

Many thanks guys, all sorted and very obvious once you are under there and all for the price of a few squirts of WD40!

I cannot believe how different the selector feels, I had no idea it had tightened and it is pulling away so much more crisply again with no slippage whatsoever.

Thanks again guys Thumbs Up 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE
