Headlight wash and wipe

So my headlight wipers work. The washers don't at the moment but I am thinking/hoping it is just pump problem or blocked pipework.

Anyway, on the nearside headligh wiper, the cover which houses the washer jet is missing. Apparently I can't buy just this part, I have to but the whole arm Confused £66 Shocked Land Rover can Feck Off.

So my plan is this. When I sort out the water delivery to the jets, I am going to install washer jets on the bumper in front of the headights and do without the intergrated jets.

If there is a more complicated problem with the electronics that control the system. I will bypass it complete and install an after market system just for the headlight washers and have them controled from a rocker switch. I can do this for less than £30.

Land Rover can shove their overpriced/over engineered systems up their Censored

Guessing you have xenons, the wipers and washers have to work for MOT.

There is a LH (so should be nearside, even if you are in Norfolk Wink )wiper unit on ebay for £24 probably more if you hunt around

Yes I have and yes they have to wash and wipe. the wipe part is not a problem both work and there is nothing wrong with the blades. All I really need is the nearside cap piece that has the washer jet built in.

Those on ebay are just wiper arms without the bit I need.

Thanks anyway. Thumbs Up

It was only reading this I realised the cap has the washer nozzle on it - mine has been missing on the passenger side for a few months and I didn't think anything of it - but strangely it passed its MOT a couple of days ago....... (with Xenons)

I guess it depends on the tester at the time. With my luck I can be sure to get a real jobs-worth.

Whatever happens, I will make sure they work come test time, even if it looks like a pigs ear, so long as it delivers a blast of water to the headlight Job-Done.

However I refuse to line some Censored pockets (and I am not refering to the retailers). Lets face it, it's a 6"ish wiper arm with a water jet built in £66 Shocked

Or just to get it through the MOT fit in something like this:

No brainer in my opinion.

Just a thought, but give Cam Tech Craig (he's one of the site sponsors) a pm, he may have old wiper arms available from the facelifts he does. Might be able to do you a deal, he got me a replacement full headlight (xenon), sidelight, washer unit and wiper arm assembly for a good price...so may be able to help you.

Worth a try.

I have had no luck so far trying to get the small cap which has the jet built in, that is unless i am to pay silly money for a new or used arm with one fitted. I'm not known for surrendering many many gold coins for a bit of plastic that probably costs 20p to make.

So i am thinking of getting a couple of jets that fit onto the front bumper in the same way as later L322's. I can get all the bits I need to do this for less than £20.

Allthough the wipers are working. One of them does seem a little sluggish and jerky. So I am also thinking about removing the wipers and the motors and fitting blanking plugs over the holes. Again as far as I am aware later models don't have wipers, just jets (or am I wrong?). If I am not wrong, the only other problem I forsee might be that the electronics may detect that the wipers are disconnected and throw up an error message.

Has anyone done this or have any knowledge of potential problems please.

Why don't you simply unplug each of the wipers and see what happens, I pretty sure nothing will show anywhere.
The headlight wipers and washers are fed through a simple relay circuit with an input from the BCU which I presume is to make them operate in the manner they do.
