Section 3C

If you tell them in advance - and they agree - they may charge you a revised fare - which I guess could be zero, but then again, might not be.....

Or knowing BA they would probably charge you the one way fare plus a change fee. No problem with not using the return leg of a flight and I have done it many time for various reasons but would not risk not taking the first leg. In this circumstance what I normally do is book my main flight to a region as a return and then buy side tickets for local flights, especially where plans are not fixed and then if necessary and depending on ticket basis pay to change the return date if I need to. Do check the fare basis of any ticket you buy if changes are likely as some are non changeable and other have large fees so often better to buy a more flexible fare basis in whatever class you are buying.

I would personally look to buy a London to Hong Kong return with your chosen airline, (I would personally avoid BA) and then a return from Hong Kong to Toyko. Alternatively you may be able to buy as a single ticket London - Hong Kong - Tokyo - London (may have stopover/plane changes) with someone like Cathay Pacific of Japan Airlines. BA & Virgin will nearly always be the most expensive options unless on a package or very cheap economy ticket based on 20+ years of short and long haul business travel. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Quantas used to do a cheap multi stop return ticket?

Still do...

Star Alliance network does a round the world ticket that allows multiple stops but you have to keep going in the same direction for the best price and there used to be a 10 day minimum trip duration. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

I used the Quantas Multi Ticket to go all the way round the world with 12 stops for £1500 back in 1990!

You could do far worse than to speak to a decent travel agent like Trailfinders. They've sorted me out with many complex tickets in the past and no credit card charges either.

Thanks for all the advice folks.

I'm tied to using the work preferred agent and will get "discounted" rates (that are probably higher than normal) through work so can't go booking anywhere else.

Was just wondering on my options to ask them to book... Will see where it takes me... Ash

Depending on whether your company's preferred agent is 'creative' enough and you can tolerate a bit of inconvenience, but great savings can be made by starting journeys from European airports rather than the UK still using BA and OneWorld airlines.

There's a wealth of information here from hard core travellers. Keep you busy for ages!
