Bonnet Release Cable - how to get bonnet open

Got a problem!
Text from my wife this morning to say that the bonnet release cable has snapped at the release lever end inside the car. I suggested pulling the cable with pliers / mole grips (i'm in Paris until Friday), but she says that the inner cable has shot into the engine compartment.

Now, How the H*LL do I get the bonnet open?? Is it DIY'able or is it a garage job?

Thanks Stan,
I read that but apparently my wife says that the cable 'has shot into the engine compartment', now I'm not sure if she means just the inner cable or both the inner cable and the outer sheath, if that is the case then I cant get at the inner cable to give it a pull to open the bonnet Crying or Very sad

Is there any way to release the catch from outside the car or by poking around through the grill? I dont have any room in the garage (well it wouldnt fit in anyway) and dont fancy having to start removing inner wheel arches etc!

If as you say it has snapped at the release lever end. The cable will be just inside the outer sheath. I had the same problem with mine a couple of months ago.

What I did was carefully cut away about 2 inches of the outer covering. Below this you will find wire wrapped around an inner plastic coating, this is what gives it it's rigidity and protection. I unwound the wire, again about 2 Inches and snipped it off. Then finally you will have another layer of plastic, carefully cut this away.

You should have exposed enough of the release cable wire now to be able to get a grip with pliers, mole grips and open the bonnet.

Hope that helps.
