Sat nav works on screen but no data on other buttons

Got a friend with a TDV8. When you push any of the six buttons around the central screen it shows all the screen backgrounds but none of the data. The exception to this is the sat nav which seems to work correctly. When you press the radio what it comes up with is the word preset instead of all the radio stations and the volume control on the screen won't work. When you switch to phone it says no phone fitted which isn't the case. It all worked until recently. The mpg shows on the single line screen on the dash but when you go to the computer screen all the background is there properly but the boxes with the numbers are all blank. When you go to the 4x4 screen it shows everything but the wheels don't turn and it doesn't tell you the ride height in the top right corner.
Also when you put it into reverse the reversing camera doesn't come on.

Have had a few of the fibre-optic connectors out and they all appear to be clean. The radio does work but only on one station. The volume can only be controlled from the steering wheel. Have checked in the near side rear compartment and all appears to be dry. It works but only on one station.

The battery is new.

Anyone encountered anything like this before? Is there a fuse which controls the data as opposed to the screen backgrounds?

Thanks. Rehab is for quitters!!!

Hi Dijit

I have the exact same problem with my 2007 TDV8, I have tried resetting the system by disconnecting the battery over night but nothing, it was working ok except for the phone never worked, if you disconect the fibre optic you loose the radio.
Have you found a solution yet?

Hi David,

Thanks for getting back to me, I still have the same problem, I have isolated each device on the fibre optic MOST network, even stripping down the dash to get to the CD player, so far I've got as far as I can go, I have spoken to a local garage and they are going to have a look in the next 2 weeks.
Have you had any joy with yours?

Regards

Mal

P.s. Not able to pm you as I've not sent enough posts yet, probably will after this post

How have you isolated each device?

Hi Cam Tech Craig & Stan,

I have isolated each component by disconnecting each device and using a fiber optic link in place to complete the optic link.
I have done a reset by both disconnecting overnight and by holding the terminals on the battery together (obviously off the battery).
The car worked fine for a month and then I couldn't select AUX, CD, TV, also nothing on the terrain response shows, Fuel computer (although it shows on the dash display), volume control, reverse camera, venture cam, telephone, voice control, plus probably more doesn't work.
In the on-board diagnostics it doesn't show reverse gear, however the reverse lights come on, volume is controlled via steering wheel controls but the re tune buttons does not respond. There is no sound from the Sat Nav but otherwise works well. the other thing that works is the radio but none of the presets show the station name and you have to go into the tuning setting to scan to a station. In the diagnostics all soft and hard buttons show working.
Love the car, to me it is my ultimate vehicle, I would really love to have it all working.
FYI 2007 Vogue SE TDV8
Any help or pointers would be much appreciated

Mal

Sounds very much like the BT module to me... They do like to throw up some really strange faults!

Hi All,

As a follow up to complete the story, I purchased and had fitted a new screen which has the IHU (integrated Head Unit) and hey presto it now all works perfect.
Hope this helps others that may have same problem.

FYI got a new one off ebay for £270

Malkyo, were you present when the screen was swapped? Do you still have the old screen? I'm asking as I'd like to know how easy it is to remove the screen and secondly if it could be something as simple as a dry solder joint?

Thanks,

Hi Dijit,

the top of the dash has to come apart to gain access to the screen, it will take several hours to do, I still have the old screen. I did take the dash apart before to test the cd player and it took me several hours but that was the first go,
I'm sure I sent you an email a week or so ago to let you know that it got fixed, not sure if you got it or it's sitting in you spam box.

Hope this helps

Malkyo

Hi, This is almost identical to what is happening to me except the radio is intermittent (still only on one station though). I was starting to think it was the radio tuning unit VUX500103. The system mainly didn't work through the summer when it was much warmer, well sun through the screen made the dash really hot. So it does make sense that it could be the head unit.
I almost bought the tuning unit from the States just now but thought I would check the forum to see if there was any new info, luckily I did. I will now go and try and find a reasonable head unit on EB.
Fingers crossed it will fix it. It has only not worked properly for about two years so no big deal Evil or Very Mad Traded in my Audi TT 225 for my Range Rover TD6 Autobiography in Java Black. Range Rover now sold.

BBA Reman do repairs on multifunction screens. Might be worth a go.
