Few pics from the Highland 4x4 club run on boxing day - my FF on winter tyres surprised quite a few of the hardcore off roaders with their modified defenders. Few of them needed winched - FF just ploughed on regardless. Was good to see just what it can do. We were up on Novar Estate in Easter Ross and had a great day out, 26 landrovers (3 range rovers - 2 classics and my L322), a nissan terrano, suzuki jimny and landcruiser - the Estate Manager was with us and took us on some fairly challenging terrain. Enjoy..........

Why is it that an FFRR on "road" tyres seems able to go where Defenders on big knobblies can't? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Most Defender owners are suprised by L322 off road. As a matter of fact, my G4 Challenge L322 on MTRs goes anywhere our local club 90's and 110s go, we take the winch out when they do, not more, not less.

It is such a fantastic vehicle (with heated everything, steering wheel, seats, windscreen... )

To your defender vs FF comparison, Is it because or traction control? I mean all four wheels driving, yes, but if the easiest side spinning in the air means no movement, relying on other axle/transfer etc, therefore possibly three wheel drive, but power wasted throwing mud around. The range's traction control brakes the lifted wheel, and thus the three wheels left have all the power. instantaneously keeping movement/momentum, and continuous driving. This is how I perceive it. However I have no off road experience. (Londoner!)

Reckon it probably was down to the traction control, the disco 3 that was there had no issues either. Here's a few more pics, first one was heading to Ullapool yesterday to drop a car at the ferry for Stornoway - An Teallach looking very wintery!

For all the club days out we have to negotiate with the individual landowners to gain access to their land - each car pays £20 and the money collected goes to a charity nominated by the landowner - works well and get no grief from anyone.

Thats great. gets you places no one else can, very privileged opportunity by the looks of it.
