Changing as I have been told by garage that the cable adjuster is not working correctly, I had the handbrake shoes adjusted and handbrake is still crap.
On another note whilst driving on Sunday had a sudden loss of power no lights on dash and its been a bit hit & miss since anybody got any thoughts.
Then this morning driving to work had tranferbox neutral come on the dash

Before doing anything with the handbrake lever and cable have you had the rear drums off?
Mine was similar to yours, took the drums off, cleaned out all the rubbish, emery-papered the shoe surfaces and drum surfaces, put it all back together and the handbrake worked perfectly.
Worth a look.

Yes all that was done and the shoes adjusted up, the handbrake works but not effectively and I don't think it would go through its MOT as is

Unlucky.
Could just be the cable that needs changed, they do tend to stretch through time.

Does that mean your cable is partly in the future  Ash

Have you tried it at different suspension heights? Due to the extreme articulation your handbrake can work well on off road height... Drop it to access height and your handbrake probably won’t hold the car at all!

Have not tried that, but would have thought that the handbrake should work in all situations. No doubt I will have to replace the cables as well.

There is a reason they changed to an elec handbrake sir

Apparently that's worse most people I have spoken to reckon it always goes wrong and about a grand a pop to fix. Will stick to mechanical thank you sir
