Backs you could live with but the fronts are shocking no way would I have taken them away like that, I have had wheels refurbished from a company close to me and they look like now weld repairs should be machined back pre powder coat the alloy had a weld repair to rim, I pay from £60 a wheel depending on repairs.

Steve thanks for the pics of what your experiences have been. That is the kind of finish I was hoping for. All the comments have confirmed I am not being too fussy, hopefully I can resolve this with the company concerned.

Darren.

Well I emailed my formal complaint last night to the wheel refurbisher outlining why I wasn't happy and sent him the photo's at the top of this post and asked him if he would either have another go at re-furbing the wheels or refund my money. This was his reply.

"Dear sir, unfortunately I do not agree with many of your comments. I have been in this business for fifteen years and have never actually met someone who expects perfection out of a refurbished wheel that costs in the region of 10-20 percent of a new wheel. I am not going to argue as my time is better spent on customers that we can please."

So I have contacted my bank and they have now taken this up under the sale of goods act and they will be seeking a refund if they agree that he is misrepresenting his services.

I have found that people who have to tell you how long they have been in business usually are actually convincing themselves that they must be good as they have been doing it a long time.

Best of luck getting the dosh back. If you had paid £25-£50 per rim for a refurb I'd not be concerned but for £75 a corner I'd want them spot on. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Just because he's been doing it for 15 years doesn't mean he's been doing it right.
Imo really shoddy job.

Looks like they were just painted over with very little prep and some of the new finish peeling off already. To some extent you always get what you pay for, i.e. it would be unfair to expect the same job from a mobile unit in a van as from a location where wheels are dipped to remove all the old finish and then powder coat. That said £300 for 4 wheels is not a cheapo job so I would expect at least the surfaces that show to be smooth and present a newish like appearance if not as new. Backsides and inner surfaces are possibly different as not visible and therefore arguably ok to finish to a lower standard (i.e. a van jobby may normally only works on the front).

Really all depends on what they were asked to do, what service they advertise and any guarantee they offer.

May be worth naming and shaming (factually, i.e. asked ABC Ltd to completely refurb my four wheels for £300 and this isthe level of finish received. Not at all happy or what I expected, if this is not the level of finish you would want I cannot recommend using) to warn other members, contacts on social media etc.... to stay away unless they think the job was ok and good value for money. You could also leave reviews on websites and directories that list them, again keeping it factual. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Provision of goods and services act 1979, whereby you expect an acceptable standard of work consummate with the amount paid.

It appears that you paid the market rate, so now you need an independent opinion regarding the standard of the work, and make a complaint to him outlining why you are not happy and what you want in order to rectify the issue. State that you expect a reply within a week (or other period), and that if he fails to respond, then you will seek redress via the small claims court.

I can confirm that this was not a smart repair or man in a van set up. It was a dedicated wheel repair company with all the facilities to dip and beadblast the wheels. I asked for as much care to be taken on the back of the wheels as the fronts, I was shown a BMW wheel that was absolutely pristine as a demonstration of the workmanship they were offering and was happy to proceed on that basis that I would get my wheels back in the same condition. They had the wheels for 2 weeks so plenty of time for them to process, I didn't hassle them as I wanted a proper job, I called them once to just double check that all the wheels I had given them were ok in terms of no hairline cracks or substantial repairs needed and to check they were not going to ruin the new finish by banging on some wheel weights and were going to use stick on weights.

The manager seemed to be irritated that I dared to question the quality of the work, even to the point that I had to remind him that as the customer who was paying him I would decide what I found acceptable or unnacceptable and he started asking me how I was going to prove that he had said what he did. I could not endorse his customer service skills if I see his Linkedin profile Smile

Thank you - I have done exactly that and he replied with

" Dear sir, unfortunately I do not agree with many of your comments. So my bank are now looking into getting a refund out of him.

Regards

Darren

I personally wouldn't be happy with the finish. I'd also expect the back of the rim to be spot on too - I hate the 'you can't see it so we can cut corner' attitude to workmanship. I know a very good alloy wheel refurbisher in Dorset if you don't get any joy (not exactly local to you but I know the owner personally and can vouch for his work)

From the photos the front looks ok and are all the defects on the back ? If that is the case I can well belive that 99% of people would accept especially if you collect the wheels on the car. However if you specifically asked for the backs to be paid attention to and assured they would be as new then no its not acceptable and as said above its certainly not a cheap price. Plus the fact you are offering him the chance todo them again to the agreed standard so don't know why he thinks your after a dicount.

I would imagine the demo bmw wheels was likely a near pristine wheel that they have re coated. Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )
