Anti Vandalism Measures

Some brainless ape has keyed the bonnet of my car. It's currently being looked at by a friendly paint specialist, but I'm wondering what steps if any people are taking to protect their cars from vandalism.

I'm considering an in-car motion sensing CCTV system so that when I can catch the baboon that did it I can be sure of their identity before I remove them from the gene-pool.

Does anybody have any recommendations on a system?

Any of the dash cams would work - you would just have to connect it to a permanent live feed.

I've got a Blackvue, but there are others.

I also have a ski boat that spends time on a remote dock in the summer months - for that I have a 12v CCTV camera with IR illumination as it's very dark down there - and an SD card recorder - both came from eBay and cost somewhere in the region of £70 in total.

Be careful about posting anything on a public forum, other than about taking the video to the local police Whistle

Does the motion sensor on the Blackvue work well? It seems like a well built piece of kit, but I've heard mixed reports about the motion sensors on lots of these types of cameras.

It would be great to have decent footage to give to the police so that the animal can be put behind bars where they belong.

As tempting as it might be to deal with them myself, I'm only venting my frustrations. Whoever did this it certainly not worth the effort or the consequences if I were to deal with them myself. Perhaps if their parents had taught them respect for others and other peoples property the whole situation could have been avoided?

I've not actually tried the motion sensor - I'm assuming you could set the sensitivity down low....

This is the kind of thing I have in my boat - and a camera along these lines.

Are you within wifi range ? If so, you could always try this

I've thought about getting an ip camera setup but as I have to park on the street, i don't think it's really feasible. The dash cam solution sounds like it might work quite well, especially with a power kit, as long as the parking mode works quite well.

To that end, the blackvue kit looks really good, at least on paper and their website. It would be good to hear from someone who owns it though.

Laughing I own one, just not too clued up on all it can do.

I just had a look at mine & for parking mode, it has 3 directional G settings & also a motion sensing setting.

I thought I'd wired it to ignition live, but it appears not.... the motion setting seems to have kicked in as the sun came out - the car hasn't moved & yet it's chosen to record some activity.

I've taken the plunge and bought the blackvue. The motion sensor sounds like it works exactly like I want it. I promise if the baboon does it again I'll upload the pictures as well as letting the police know.

That's made me chuckle Laughing I would *love* to do something like that! It's so good it's bound to be illegal here. I wouldn't want to infringe upon the rights of someone who showed no respect for mine Rolling Eyes

I own a Blackvue and leaving it running permanently when I'm away from the car.

It caught the culprit when I found somebody had dented my car door the other week:

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic31898.html

When I confronted her saying it had been caught on camera, she confessed and said it wont happen again (probably because she now knows she's being filmed 24/7 when she's near my car!!). 2002 Range Rover Td6 Vogue

CY, that's really encouraging!

My blackvue arrived today, although the Power Magic Pro won't arrive til tomorrow and I'm now away all weekend with the car. I'm hoping early next week to get it all wired up with continuous power so I can make the most of the parking mode.

How have you wired the continuous power on yours? have you used add-a-circuit in the fusebox, or have you done something else?

Thanks

I've routed mine into a permanent live cigarette lighter - no adaptation required.

I leave it on without any power magic intervention and it's been fine, no drain to the battery.

Between the RR and my Discovery I've captured a few interesting scenes on it!

great videos! There's some right idiots about!

The permanent live lighter... It's not a factory fitted one is it? I haven't checked all of them, but I'm starting to think I might need to wire one in somewhere but to be honest I don't have a clue where to start (yet!)
