Last car I had serviced at a main dealership was my Porsche, they overfilled it with oil and it blew the rear crankshaft seall which cost them a lot of man hours to replace the seal

That's the one i've seen go the most, normally it's obvious as you'll see oil dripping from the bell housing, if you catch it early enough it's just a weep and nothing much to worry about. But if it goes pop it's a bit job to fix, especially on a manual, as the clutch will usually get soaked and require replacement.

took it back to the garage yesterday - they said they only needed to remove less than a quarter litre and it all worked fine so think CS was spot on. They mentioned that the car is very sensitive to these things and again, if performance feels fine, nothing is really wrong.

will keep an eye on it anyway - lesson to be learnt that i should be paying more attention and checking things regularly.

that video was something ! OUCH MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Mine is reading overfill, but I did check it warm. Will have a look again when it has cooled down in the morning. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I thought with these new electronic checks you could only get an oil reading after getting up to tEmp and then waiting 15 minutes before checking?

How do you check the cold temp? Mine just says unavailable if I try in the morning. MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

re read the manual, and it is meant to be checked warm........

I have been under it and drained out about 1/2 a litre, will wait to see when it has stabilised whether it is right.

One question, HELP, before i put the under tray on.

I can't push the fitting on any more than this, i don't think it was on any more to start with. There only seems to be one lip for it to latch over. Cant push it home any further even if I squeeze the clips. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Northernmonkeyjones is quite right that the manual says that the 4.4 TDV8 oil level should be checked warm after 15 minutes settling time (the manual says that 3.6 TDV8 should be done cold). Having been told to check my 4.4 cold by the dealer I called them again to ask which was right. I was told this time that warm after 20 minutes was right, but it could also be done cold. In each case the indicator is very sensitive to whether the car is on level ground and being on uneven ground could easily show the level at the next line. Apparently the car will not provide a reading if either the oil has not drained down enough or the oil is too hot (or both). Only Range Rovers since 1988

Drained 1/2 - 3/4 a litre out of the car and it is reading right on the guage now!

Runs fine and has managed not to self combust in the 2k since it was service....... Still has a small bead dripping from the scavenger pipe at the bottom of the engine where you drain it down though, even though I have wiped it off several times. Will get them to look at it when it goes in for the recall on the brake flexis👍 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
