Key fob stopped working

2004 TD6 - Just went to get into the car and the key fob I have been using since I bought it seems to be dead, no life at all - is this just a battery thing or possibly something else? I can use the spare key (thankfully I had it handy) but are there any gremlins waiting to pounce or is this a handy enough diy job?

It could be anything from just a flat battery to a wet, corroded or cracked circuit board. You wont know until you change the battery.

I only asked as I saw a thread that mentioned a rechargeable battery so was not sure if it was this type of fob or a more modern one - But discovered when I opened the key (its a CR2016 battery BTW in case anyone wants to know) that the battery was very very slightly out of place Shocked a tiny press of my finger and it's working again - I suspect somebody may have knocked the key onto the ground from the shelf it was sitting on - so all is well that ends well but I'm going to order in a couple of those battery's as i don't have any in the house Cool

Is the CR2016 battery to "flat" for the battery holder? Is the CR2032 the preferred battery of choice?

I have a new key with a CR2016 and it seems to have gone flat very quickly as the key went inop inless than a month of getting it. Opened up and noticed there are a few pieces of paper between battery and key shell.
