I have some new rear discs and parking brake shoes to fit.

The workshop manual says put Handbrake in mounting position. I have an IIDTool so can do this. But is it necessary as long as I use the correct embedding in procedure?

The manual doesn't say to 'unmount' the brake by the diagnostics after all is reassembled. And still stays to flick the adjuster all the way back so no idea what the mounting position adds to this. Maybe stops some inadvertent damage to cable....

Is it so you can get the discs off?

Like when removing the drums from an old drum brake, if the drum is worn you have to wind the adjusters right back to get the shoes to clear the lip worn on the edge of the drum.

Yes, I appreciate that. It was more for the point of view if the T4/IIDTool/Diagnostic service 'mount' procedure adds anything that the wee adjustor does not.

Maybe I'm confusing the issue.

I presume you can change the rear discs with out a diagnostic machine just by using the adjuster to ease the shoes off the drum.

Given I have an IIDtool that can 'mount' the brake - does this add anything more than the standard?

Does that make sense?

I have an IIDTool and I didn't do anything with it when I replaced my rear disks.

The procedure I used was to wind the shoes in using the little cog that's behind a cover on the disk back (whilst counting the turns), then doing the reverse when the new disks were fitted.

-Mounting position is to allow removal / installation of the disks without playing with the cog wheel.
-Latching is normal operating position (ready to engage)
