NEW OWNER GETTING TO GRIPS WITH 2003 V8!!

Bought a 2003 v8 4.4l in June and drove it 400 miles from London to Glasgow. Although the previous owner was an enthusiast and had a fulfat sticker on the rear window 4 weeks later I got the car back from my mechanic with a new gearbox, rear suspension, rear brakes, bushes and a full service Crying or Very sad
I now have a list of rust proofing and mirror fixing jobs to do which fullfat have been great at explaining how to do but I now have a more serious problem to attend to which needs your help and advice. I am having times when reverse gear is not engaging. It is intermittent, mostly from park to reverse than from neutral to reverse and also now noticed the offside mirror moves downwards on reverse selection and back to it's position when I come out of reverse. It can happen from start up or hot, flat or incline and I am not confident on making a journey in the car now.
Please can you suggest what is going wrong.

Alex , i would go straight back to the garage that fitted the new gearbox as a first, the mirror thing well the nearside should dip in reverse so only an anomoly, apart from that sounds OK Thumbs Up

As Rosco says, mirror is normal behaviour, if you don't want it to do it then move the mirror switch to the nearside position..

Gearbox could be loose selector on the side of the gearbox.... Pete

Thanks guys Bow down .The car has still to get the prinns LPG vaporiser replaced as it had been silicone repaired which was not safe and I'll ask them to check this then.
Just to be sure is it correct that the nearside mirror is meant to move downwards in reverse?

Yes,
There is a small switch on the drivers door (in front of the window switches), in one position it disables the mirror from moving downwards.
