I am seriously considering getting back into a Range Rover again after having fun in an XKR 5.0 Supercharged for the past two years. Looking currently at either the 5.0 SC or 4.4 TDV8 in Vogue SE or Autobiography guise from say 2010-2012 MY.
Any advice from owners of either model would be appreciated and if someone could clarify which of the 4.4 TDV8 models have the 8 speed box that would be helpful.

hi steve, you need to change that 'possibly' to 'i will'...you know it makes sense..

all 4.4 tdv8's have the 8 speed box, the 5.0 sticks to the 6 speed..

As Stan says, all 4.4 are 8sp, the facelift tdv8's with a gear knob are 3.6's

Go for the 5.0 if you can as they are just coming into sub £30k now and will likely be cheaper long term compared to the 4.4
If you want to save some pennies for £10k less you can get a 3.6TDV8 which while more frugal to a certain extent is well known as to its main issues and can be easily sorted. With the money saved you can get a remap, DPF/EGR delete to help with longevity and do all the fluids on it as well and still be much better off as it will lose less when you change your mind again in a few years time compared to the 5.0.... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Craig what are the differences with the two that made you opt for the 4.4 TDV8? Do you see any issue with the diesel with regards to relatively high miles (say 90k in 4 years).....i would only using the car for approx 8/10k year going forward.
