RR 2002 gasoline V8 (4.4 BMW engine ) - 50.000km

hi everyone

i have been checking the engine oil level for some time now and it appears that i have to add regularly 1liter of engine oil every 1.000 km.
is this normal, my engine being low mileage (50.000 km) ,
i can't see any blue smoke from exhaust, ( except sometimes right at engine start, but not more than that.)

checking under the car I discovered an area stained with oil, which i showed to a dealer.
they said there is a little oil escape coming out at the rear end of the automatic gearbox and it is coming from gearbox, not from the engine .

i am confused now about the case , not knowing where is the problem...
so if you would be kind to help me understand :

is it normal for the engine to consume 1 oil liter every 1.000km ? ( car shows no blue smoke at exhaust )

is it possible that the leak , apparent at the rear end of auto gear box, would be leaking from the engine itself?

in this case, where are the most probable places that should be checked to find out the engine oil leakage?

Definitely not normal usage! I barely put any in mine between services. I would say you have a leak, poss a cam gasket or poss out of the drive shaft junction underneath where it goes into the gearbox or the engine.

153,000 miles (246,000km) and it doesn't use a drop, ever....

So as "Flipper" says, something is wrong..... Pete

Check out the small rubber hose coming from the oil separator at the rear of the engine, it's on the left side as you look at it from the front.

Mine had deteriorated that much it resembled chewing gum (no exaggeration) and had snapped in the middle.

This lead to an oil leak that blew back underneath the car giving the impression that it was coming from the rear of the gearbox, it can and does lead to excessive oil loss and 1 litre every 1000km sounds about right.
