Planning on doing this prior to picking up a new battery this weekend and have watched the rsw solutions video on it and it looks fairly simple. Determined to sort my up and down idle and was hoping it may be down to either a dirty throttle body or battery..batterys at 14.1 with engine running and no load and just under 11.6 under load...any pointers in what to use to clean it or any advise at all would be greatly appreciated....

Aerosol carburettor cleaner. Works like a champ but don't get it on your skin as it removes all the oils and you go very white and powdery.

just did mine, I used tooth brush with some diesel and finish with degreaser spray. 35-40 min job.

Be careful, you can ruin a throttle body if you open the flap against the motor, IMHO it is a total waste of time on a petrol, yes it will have dirt on it but it's a drop in the ocean, the whole inlet tract has the same film of dirt on it and nobody bothers to clean the entire inlet manifold....

Have a look but unless it is very dirty with a thick scum of muck then I'd leave well alone...

Irregular tickover maybe a faulty throttle body or accelerator pedal, good idea to investigate via live values with a diagnostic tool to see if there are any irregularities... It could also be the MAF or even something like a failing camshaft or crankshaft sensor or even the BECM.. Then there is fuel quality and age, fuel pump pressure, etc etc...

First thing is to look for any relevant faults...  Pete

That's good enough for me..leave well alone and go through the list of other possibilities..firstly I have been using morrisons unleaded. Will use another source for her, changing battery at the weekend as its suspect then I will have a read up on everything else...don't really trust my icarsoft for data streams now as I'm certain its giving me dodgy readings so iid tools a priority first.thanks again Pete...
