Silly question time! I've just done my spark plugs,air filter and pollen filter and I'm contemplating doing a full oil change..is it possible to change the oil with the car in offroad height and with a couple of axlestands under the jacking points? Saves a bit more cash and it only leaves the mechanic the fuel filter,diff and gearbox oil change..I will change my oil filter at the sane time..any pointers would be appreciated ta...

You can do all of those oils yourself on your back with the car on the floor, just leave a door open and it won't drop, stick an axle stand under it if you like...

Gearbox transfer box and axles are straightforward....

All easy to do, details in Rave, make sure you can undo the filler plug BEFORE you undo the drain plugs..

I bought a vacuum pump last year - perfect for changing the oil in any car and most dealers use a version of this.

Well worth it, I even replace the brake fluid and power steering fluid using it,

As above and if you want more space park one sid on the edge of a curb for some extra clearance as above it's easy when standard, I now have to put the front up on ramps due to the sump guard and needing to get it down first  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

Just watch the engine sump plug, they strip at piece rate.

The lower sump seems to be alloy and the plug isn't - recipe for disaster.

I shall take a bit extra care then Picked up 10ltrs comma oil as per the wiki chart and a replacement sump plug/brass washer also got a large mechanics oil pan ..the oil for the diffs is enroute as well...gentlemen again thanks a lot for the pointers/advise...

As it is only the gearbox access that requires something better that a squeezable I got the much smaller vacuum pump that transfers a litre at a time. It does do the axles and transfer box in one suck and blow which is a bonus. Sealey 1Ltr I think was £10 from the bay of e.

Not ramps per se but I took a chainsaw to a 4x4" fence post, cut them into foot long sections with a 45 degree slope on one end. Nailed three together in parallel. Repeat 4 times.

Now I just put one in front of each wheel and simply drive up onto them. The extra 4" ontop of offroad height makes it much more pleasant moving around underneath. It's much flatter than the 110 meaning my arms tend to get jammed if I try and roll over. Ed

I find that ramps really help with things. The added height and workspace makes things much easier. Si. <This is my name.
