As title chaps. It's going in again tomorrow for a failed EGR valve and the deployable steps have packed up.

But, coming home tonight I was turning right out of a junction and when pulling away it hesitated which I thought was the EGR causing a lack of turbocharger effort, but then a godawful noise like a failed CV joint started on the front nearside. It stopped when I straightened up and I didn't have any more right turns on the way home to try and reproduce it. Has anyone else come across this at all?

I'm going to ask the dealer to look at it tomorrow but I am right on the verge of rejecting the car TBH, it's been nothing but bother since I got it

Not had any issues with the driveshaft.

Sounds like you are not having much luck with your L405.

Well, been considering the options and am going to a different dealer tomorrow to get a slightly more independent view of the matter. Hopefully it's fixable but if I end up rejecting I really don't know what I'll do from there. Another L405 looks doubtful based on this one.

It's funny you mention that, thought I was going mad.

I have had mine for nearly five months but for the first two I think I had something similar. I am not technically minded so apologise.
If I was steering right up a hill ( by that I mean not full lock or sharp turn, more manoeuvring), I would get a clunking from under the car, the moment I straightened up and it stopped. My logic was it would get worse and didn't want to waste time taking it to a dealer to fix. Then it stopped! Either something has broken that I don't use/don't notice or I imagined it! Not suggesting you have imagined it but It used to be pretty repeatable and now never happens so not sure how I approach the garage with that or what the problem was.

I wouldn't give up on the L405 though - there are plenty of happy owners on here - it might actually be the easiest way out as the dealership are more likely to do a trade than a refund.....

OK, well I had a moment of inspiration once I had calmed down enough to think straight. I emailed Dr Ralf Speth, the CEO of JLR globally. A very nice man who I have met personally. Without wanting to divulge too much in open forum I believe we might be heading the right way now.

I also have exactly the same thing -happens when pulling away with the steering turned left or right with the noise disappearing when I straighten up.

What was the outcome?

It's an issue with the wrong lubricant in the transfer box. Depending on how long you've had the issue it either needs a change of fluid or a replacement transfer box.

Basically the wrong oil causes the clutches to grab and bind, and ultimately destroy themselves if left unrectified.

So is that not a recall issue?

Or at the very least a free check at the MD and then oil change or box under warranty.
